The most obvious and predictable topic to first discuss is an artist’s drastic change in image. Throughout every season an artist will alter with trends as any fashion follower will however during the decades there have been more drastic outlooks on the subject. One of the most famous artists who is recognisable for his altering image is the King of Pop Michael Jackson. Starting off in the music industry at the age of 5, as the youngest member of hit band ‘Jackson 5’. Michael has never really led a life without been in the public eye. Is this the reason he became so obsessed with image and changing lifestyles or was he just afraid of racism and the public’s opinions? Behind the scenes, Joseph Jackson –Father of Michael- pushed his sons to succeed. He was also reportedly known to become violent with them which led to his paranoia about his appearance. Apparently, one of his father's insults was to call him Big Nose.

For several years, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 maintained a busy tour and recording schedule, under the supervision of Berry Gordy and his Motown staff. Gordy wrote many of the songs recorded by the group and by Michael Jackson as a solo artist. The group became so popular that they even had their own self-titled cartoon show, which ran from 1971 to 1973.

Michael Jacksons solo career continued, and led to him working with producer Quincy Jones. Jackson then wowed the music world with his next solo album. It featured an infectious blend of pop and funk with such hit tracks as the Grammy Award-winning "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough," "Rock with You," and the title track. He also found success with the ballad "She's Out of My Life."

.... However, according to sources, it is not a well known fact what causes vitiligo but its believed to be an auto-immune disorder where the body attacks the melanocytes. In conclusion to this, it is impossible to ever find out the truth as as we are all aware Jackson never lived to give an interview with his feedback on these ideas. Therefore, we can only presume the people who knew him and worked with him are telling the truth. A New York surgeon, Dr Pamela Lipkin, says Jackson had been having cosmetic surgery since his teens. Some of these include alterations to his brow, chin and cheeks. This said, we will never know if the skin cells that manufacture the skin pigment are affected and in keeping with the diagnosis, Jackson’s complexion did become steadily paler, or whether the critics opinions are correct and he was intact trying to turn himself into a white man.
