In "Without a Trace" Expectations, the team is in search for Megan Sullivan, who is 8 ½ months pregnant and is H.I.V. positive. She goes missing after a visit from the doctors with her husband. The team believes, that Megan's husband Brian isn't too enthusiastic, about his unborn child and wife. They suspect him being involved with Megan's disappearance. The team speaks with Megan's mother who tells them that Brian had an affair with a woman named Jane. They find out that Jane had left the hospital, the same time Megan went missing. Jane becomes a suspect as they believe she did Brian's dirty work. However, Jane tells them that the affair has been over, and saw Megan in a heated phone call. Megan's work computer was then checked, and found out she was searching for a new H.I.V. specialist. Her specialist told the team, that Megan came in to check the results, of the swelling around her neck. Megan was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Her new diagnosis changed her status from H.I.V. positive to aids and Megan would have six months to live after her baby's birth. Brian was told the news from Jack (Malone), and tells them Megan had started a scrapbook, that coud be a result from the diagnosis. The scrapbook leads the team to believe Megan is in search of her sister Linda, who she hasn't seen in 20 years after their dad's death. The team finds Linda, after she is found purchasing Megan's medication at a pharmacy. Linda tells them Megan might have not gone home, because of what she told her. Linda tells Megan that their father never died but, left them for his secretary. Also, Linda explains, that their mother never told Megan because, it was easier for her to never tell her. When I started to read Miracle on Voodoo Mountain, I was quite moved by the faith and honor that Megan Boudreaux portrayed. In my mind, I could think only of how scared she must have been to leave here loved ones behind and venture a world away. Without a concrete plan of how she was going to survive, she put her faith in God and followed her dreams. I cannot say that I found the book to be as amazing as I originally thought it would be, but I have learned many things about Haiti and the culture, and I am thankful for the experience.

On page 6, Lauren Tarshis writes that in the Southern Plains, “nature had existed in balance” for thousands of years. What role did prairie grass play in maintaining that balance? (key ideas) The prairie grass supported the ground. It kept the dirt and dust together so that it didn’t blow away and cause dust storms. What Tarshis means by this is that the nature had kept everything in balance by keeping it in place.

He believed that a person could disagree with the word of the lord and still be accepted by him. In his poem, The Crookedness of The Serpent, he uses nature to symbolize how god will accept the race of man even when they have sinned. In Cheryl Strayed's Wild, she gives readers vivid exposure to her turbulent and harsh past. She tells her journey from the beginning of what was the turning page in her life- her mother's death. Strayed goes through a roller coaster with unfortunate events both in her control and out of her control. She makes several poor choices, and she shares all her triumphs with pure honesty. Strayed speaks of her past with a distant remorse, as if she is looking at her past in a movie. She doesn't come across as ashamed of her past, but why should she? As all humans do, Cheryl Strayed makes mistakes and suffers their consequences as well. Everyone handles situations differently, and the best anyone can do is learn from the mistakes and apply it to their future, as she does. Strayed has come to terms with her past and by writing this biography she shows the courage she has gained from the unfortunate events in her life. As the saying goes, "whatever will be, will be." She took the everything, the negative and positive in her life, and made a wild decision to leave her life behind to find peace, move forward, and survive. There is no shame in the act of trying.
In “The Allegory of the Cave,” Plato describes the cave as very dark with chained people inside and a wall where they can only see shadow illusions, which they believe is reality. Outside the cave, there is “light” and “truth.” One chained person is released into the “light,” which is uncomfortable at first, because of how bright the “light” or “truth” is however, once he adjusts, he realizes the outer world is the “truth” or reality and the cave is a shadow of reality. He pities the ones in the cave, still lost in the darkness yet, when he tries to make them see reality, their ignorance overpowers them and they kill the enlightened one out of fear and confusion. This is the kind of society, full of puppet-handlers, the narrator Sylvia in “The Lesson” dwells in and the author, Toni Cade Bambara, depicts Sylvia as being freed from the chains of ignorant society. Bambara’s released prisoner, Miss Moore, is the one to free Sylvia and the other chained prisoners and exposes them to the “light,” which is the unequal distribution of wealth and the “truth,” which is educating youth on economic inequality so the freed prisoners can learn to change their society’s shadow of reality.
