On page 6, Lauren Tarshis writes that in the Southern Plains, “nature had existed in balance” for thousands of years. What role did prairie grass play in maintaining that balance? (key ideas) The prairie grass supported the ground. It kept the dirt and dust together so that it didn’t blow away and cause dust storms. What Tarshis means by this is that the nature had kept everything in balance by keeping it in place.

The farmers had torn out millions of miles of prairie grass so that they could farm there. Without the grass, dust began to kick up and storm around the air causing dust storms.

Quickly the kids and grandma had went in the house and had huddled together. The storm was so thick that not even car lights could be seen.
What did people do to prevent another storm like the one on Black Sunday? Were they successful? I think they were successful because we haven't had a dust storm as big as that one since then.

Explain. The story of Black Sunday offers hope to the people of Delhi because when Catherine was living during the Great Depression and all the dust storms, she didn’t see how it would get better and her family was struggling with their crops and sales. Eventually, things turned around for the better, there weren’t as many dust storms, the crops were growing and her family was getting better to. This offers hope to the people of Delhi because if things could get better for the prairie then maybe it could get better for Delhi.

How can we prevent catastrophes like the dust storms of the Southern Plains and the pollution crisis in Delhi from happening in the first place? they should stop polluting the air. there pollution habits cause the sky to be filled by smoke. they continue to burn trash and such items like plastic buckets. that make dense smoke when burned that smoke gets picked up by wind, they are in serious danger of getting cancer and such horrible diseases. they need to purify the air but the workers that could do that have suffered the symptoms of they air pollution. the symptoms of this pollution is breathlessness giddiness and chest
