Meet Payton Cox.
He’s a vivacious and highly intelligent 16-year-old, junior student at Palo Verde High School, who was just recently crowned as the 2017 Mr. Blythe.
Son of Brandy Cox, Principal of Palo Verde High School and Tim, Cox also has a sister Kennedy who he thanks the world of, and feels very fortunate being a part of his tightly knit family.
Named after the famous running back, Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears, his father’s favorite football player, Payton laughs at the fact that so many people spell his name with an e, which reminds many of Peyton Manning.

Lately, I’ve been getting into filmmaking, that’s really fun for me, so I’m working on making a short film right now; but I don’t know, it’s wherever I end up going. Hopefully, I’ll have fun doing it!
Q:What clubs or organizations are you a part of?
I’m in NHS at the high school. It’s a National Honor Society, so it’s basically a club where you go on to do community service and you have to have high academic achievements to be in the club. I’m also in FFA of the Blythe Chapter. I am the treasurer and I’m also in ASB (Associated Student Body).
Q:What’s one thing that makes you unique?
My imagination. I have a very vivid imagination. It goes off on this tangent. I take pride in how I can just think of stuff.
Q:How does it feel to have won the title?
It feels pretty good. I was really shocked when I heard I had won. I didn’t expect to win. And then when we went to the Bluegrass Festival, I realized like, how much of a big deal it is… Everyone was looking at us like we were these role models, and I was like oh wow; it’s pretty important. It feels really good to represent the community.

He’s always a hard worker and everything, hearing the stories of things he did. He always did what needed to be done first, that way he made sure he handled his responsibilities.
What things do you plan to do under your new title?
Mickey Copple: It’s only a local title. The purpose of this program was as a fundraiser to support the scholarships of the Miss Blythe programs. We’ve always had request for involving the young men in the community and this was the way we were able to capture that request and the young men have been just tremendous with their interest and being good Mr. Blythes, supportive of the community and the Miss Blythe programs. As Payton can tell you, the community just loves them, just like he experienced at the Bluegrass program.
Cox: Not to just support the community, but also to support Miss Blythe and Miss Blythe Outstanding Teen because they’re the important ones. Just kind of help them out and support them in anyway possible, while also representing the
