Summary of the accident:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration opened an investigation into the death of a construction worker who was killed Friday in the Near North Side neighborhood. Joel Ogiego, 45, of the 5100 block of Lakeview Avenue in Portage, Ind., was crushed in a construction in an unfortunate accident, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Chicago Fire Department Chief Michael Fox said the victim was unresponsive when he was found pinned by part of a crane”.

For starters, whoever was operating the crane at that point in time was clearly not paying attention and proceeded to do work without checking his or her surroundings before moving forward, which is a major violation especially when on a job site that involves use of heavy equipment around workers. Next, when operating the crane, instead of carrying a load one on top of the other, they could have done it from side to side therefore preventing the individual from getting hit and trapped. Lastly, someone from the company should have been there to oversee the work, therefore possibly preventing the crane from hitting the individual in the first place and saving a precious life. All in all, accidents happen on job sites and in order to prevent them, safety regulations need to be followed precisely without question and construction companies need to make their employees aware of this at the
