Everyone has heard of cancer. You should also know that you don’t want it. Do you know why you don’t want it? Exactly, cancer is bad. Do you know about the specific types though? You might know a little about a few types, but you can learn a lot more. A common type of cancer is Leukemia. Leukemia is a cancer in the blood. You might have heard about it or you think you know all about it, but common facts aren’t all to it. Leukemia gets its name from what kind of cancer it is. It comes from Greek leukos meaning “white” and aima meaning “blood” (Medical News Today). Leukemia was first recognized in 1845 by Rudolf Virchow (Siegel & Newton, 15). By conducting an autopsy, he discovered lots of white blood cells in the blood stream.

I have chosen to write about the constellation Cancer (The Crab). I chose Cancer because it is one of only a handful of constellations that I am actually able to identify in the night sky. Cancer is one of the twelve Zodiac constellations; people whose birthdays fall between June 21st and July 22nd have Cancer as their sign. Cancer is the Latin word for crab, and despite the fact that the constellation looks more like a lobster then a crab, it is still referred to as a crab. The constellation is visible from the northern hemisphere from late winter to early spring.
Sickle cell anemia is a disease that reforms the patient’s red blood cells, which makes the red blood cells has an abnormal shape like a sickle. Sickled red blood cells can result to severe anemia; decrease causes numerous painful symptoms in patients. A defective protein called hemoglobin is what cause the abnormal shape of the red blood cells in the sickle cell patients.
I have elected to transcribe my proposal argument on issues regarding cancer chemoprevention. I selected this topic because reasonably minute devotion has been given to cancer chemoprevention research in ethical writings, particularly in relation to the huge quantity of moral studies in cancer treatment exploration. Within the bone marrow is where white blood cells are created, that help fight off bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms within the body that cause infections. The disease develops to when the white blood cells are being produced out of control. The cells that are being produced do not work properly as they should, they grow faster than a normal cell would and don’t know when to stop growing. Overtime, if not treated properly, the white blood cells will over crowd blood cells, creating a serious problem such as anemia, bleeding and infection. Lymphoma is described as the cancer of one or more lymph nodes. There are multiple types of lymphoma, with multicentric lymphoma being the most common. There are several stages of this condition that all affect how the animal will be treated. There are multiple breeds that are predisposed, such as boxers and basset hounds being the most common. Cats who have been exposed to FeLV, or FIP are most at risk for lymphoma. Animals of either species who have been exposed to cigarette smoke are at risk. Once a diagnosis is made from a fine needle aspirate, history, lab work, and a physical exam, treatment will begin. There are many varieties of treatments available, but chemotherapy or surgical removal is the most common. There are a few risks involved with treatment including bone marrow suppression and infections.
Bone cancer is classified into primary bone cancer & secondary bone cancer. Basically, Primary bone cancer starts in the bone; then the cancer initially forms in the cells of the bone; while the secondary cancer starts elsewhere in the body and gets spread to the bone.
Before getting started with this essay, I believe it is important to discuss the disease at hand. Leukemia is the most common type of cancer in children, moreover, according to the American Cancer Society, about 2,700 children are diagnosed with this disease in our country each year. (Children's Cancer Research Fund, 2016) Leukemia is basically cancer in the blood originating in the bone marrow.
