The idea of what’s morally right and wrong changes within each culture whether an organizational culture or between individuals. However, the best leaders are the ones who do what’s right and best for the organization. During this research paper I will attempt to define the term leadership style and its concept. Moreover, I will attempt to describe three leadership styles, the development and the process one would follow to modify their leadership style. When pertaining to myself, I never saw myself as a leader but I will attempt to describe my leadership style and the advantages and disadvantage I would have in a business environment. Before defining leadership style one must define exactly what is leadership? There are many interpretations of leadership as well as leadership styles but one common term pertaining to leadership is the ability to influence others to achieve a common goal or vision. Leadership is not an innate characteristic, but a complex suite of competencies, personal attributes and vision that requires development via education, exposure to work and issues, role modelling and mentoring with existing leaders. (Huges, Ginnett, Curphy, 1999) Edwin T. Cornelius III defined leadership style as the broad, characteristic way in which a leader interacts with others across in various situations and occasions. (Cornelius, 2006) However, many researchers would agree that leadership style is merely traits and they can change within an organization or between different situations. Annick M. In today’s society this particular learning style may be effective in creating a positive corporate culture and can lead to high morale among team members. The only challenge I may have is the slow decision making process when trying to include members in the decision making process. However, the advantage is that I would work with team members to make decisions which in return should increase their productivity because they are more involved in the process. The democratic leadership is also my preferred style because I’m more of a team player versus an autocratic leader. I would not demand my followers to do any task, I prefer to motivate my followers to success.
Leadership style is a behavioral model that leaders use it to interact with followers. The word 'leadership' has been use in various aspects of human endeavour such as social works, politics, academics, businesses and other. Some of these styles have more strengths than weaknesses while others are weaker but the peculiarity of the organization is what matters the most.
A review of the literature will show that managers practice a variety of leadership styles. The autocratic and free-rein leaders are not as common or well received by employees. Whereas, the consultative and participative leaders are more common, approachable, and well respected. There many different leadership styles that people use in their professions. One person may have an authoritarian style where as another may use a democratic leadership style. A person could also let the people do what they want employing a laisses faire type of leadership. The type of leadership one decides to use depends on how much control they need in making a decision. The leadership styles are on continuum ranging from demanding all the control, to taking in the opinions of others, to letting people make their own decisions. My personal leadership style involves using the transformational leadership.

With this, I am able define my personal leader style, identify personal factors and social qualities necessary to be a successful leader. A leader is someone who is able to guide others to obtain goals in various situations. It is a joint effort that operates for the overall success of the company. A leader can also adapt to the needs of their followers by building relationships and sustaining connections using the three layers of social identity.

Those who view leadership as the outcome of individual characteristics possessed by a leader, whilst others perceive leadership as a social development that emerges from organisational relationships. Both are subject to co-exist as the development of organisational culture is largely related to its leadership, as well as the cultural aspect of an organisation has impacts on the development of its leadership. There are a few different types of well known leadership styles, authoritarian, delegative, and democratic. To assess my leadership style I used two online tests to help me determine my style. I felt the results were accurate and I fall into a democratic style/participative style. If I am leading I prefer to include the group and get their feedback on solving issues. However, I still make the final decision after listening to the thoughts of the group on a particular topic. This is considered to be a positive style of leadership that is inspiring to the group involved. The leaders decision making tends to be more accurate due to the input of other experts. (Cite)
Over the course of my professional career in different organizations in the past three years, I have worked under many managers. This has been a learning curve for me to understand the different managing styles and leadership characteristics of people. One of the managers whom I worked under, was the lead in a government project which also happened to be my last project before I took a break for continuing my studies, is a person I admire till date. I learned several life lessons in addition to the technical subject associated with the industry. This paper demonstrates the leadership styles exhibited by my manager with suitable examples.
