As a leader, I have to express my ideas and feelings in way that shows heart and thought. Even though this is a strength it is still a challenge. I have to continuously educate myself and seek advise on how to lead in a mature manner. When I first entered into a leadership role, my entire team was late to work. I was surprised by the lack of structure. Instead of getting upset, I had start asking questions on how we could enhance the schedule structure. This allowed candor within the work environment and that others can contribute to the growth in the organization. Which leads to the last trait of think win-win habit, abundance. My next strong habits were scored equally, seek first to understand, synergize and sharpen the saw. Seek first to understand, habit 5, then it is best to be understood. This habit seems to be a positive strength if someone ask me for my intake or trusts me. As a leader, I want to be empathic but sometimes it can be to the detriment of the relationship if listen is not my first reaction. Growing up if I did something wrong my mom would react first then talk about a situation. As I got older, realized that is relevant for a child but not adults. My younger sister had a problem, even though I am her big sister, I still needed to listen before responding and not try to fix it. As leader, I want things to go smooth even when there are fires sometimes it best to understand the situation before being understood. In short, it is not always about me. Next, synergize, habit 6, is creative cooperation, (Covey, 1989). Recently on a project I was working on our investor relations team choice to use the “synergize” in their PowerPoint.
