Lack Of Communication In Buffy The Vampire Slayer

The episode "hush" from the highly recognized television series "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" is one of the most if not the most intriguing episodes of the series’ seven-year run. In a way, it became a story of its own, containing a beginning, middle, and an end. Everything seemed new, new problems, monsters , and most importantly secrets. Secrets which the characters hope to keep to themselves or just blatantly do not know how or who to tell. In the episode "Hush" the idea that communication is key, is a metaphor for what is hidden behind the mask of our characters. Communication, therefore, represents what is not told. One of the best examples of the lack of communication lies with the relationship that Buffy and Finn have. A relationship built on top of many lies. Both Buffy and Finn seem to like each other, yet they never quite tell each other how they feel about one another. Maybe it has something to do with fear, fear that they are getting too close or serious too fast, which leads them to back off one another. Xander and Anya are the prime examples for this problem. Just like Buffy and Finn, Xander and Anya do not show their true emotions to each other. They always seem to be bickering at each other over the smallest of things, even as they are dating. Rupert and Olivia also seem to have the same communication problem, although theirs seems to have been going on for a much longer time. Their main problem seems to be work, they are always placing it above all other things material or emotional. On the other hand, Willow and Terra want to learn more about witchcraft although they are going about it all wrong. Willow seems to want a group, while Terra is an outcast, the worst part is that both of them do not know one another. Not even the fact that both of them are
