“I am not afraid…I was born to do this.” This kind of bravery, determination, and sagaciousness seems like one of a strong leader. That is true of Joan of Arc, who heard voices from god and led France to freedom. Joan of Arc was a girl so determined she never let her oppositions stop her from serving her god and saving her country. Joan’s life was one of many wonders and overcame tribulations. Joan’s early life as a peasant never stopped her from doing what she believed. Joan is believed to be born in the year 1412, in the village of Domremy, in the Meuse River Valley. Her unsure date of birth is due to her lowly birth status as a wealthier peasant. (Diane Stanley)The name given to her at birth is often argues between historians, but some popular ones include; Jeanette, Jeanne, and Jehanne, but she preferred to be referred to as “Joan of Arc” or even (history) She was raised a devoted catholic and as a peasant. The valley she lived in was often looted and menaced by the enemy army, which made the war very real and enemy very apparent to Joan. When Joan was 13 she claimed to have seen her first vision. In Joan’s day people relied more on spiritual points of view rather than a scientific one. Her initial visions, delivered to her by Saint Michael the Archangel, only told her to be a good girl, listen to her mother, or to go to church. The voices advanced in commands telling her that she needed to save England, and to do that she would need to travel through enemy territory to Chinon where the Dauphin lived.
