John pointing to Jesus say’s, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!” “I don’t know Him, but I have seen the Holy Spirit descend upon Him and remain, and I testify He is the Son of God!”

What a glorious and at the same time, mysterious occasion…. the Son of God coming to be baptized by a “sinner prophet.” Yes, John preached repentance, but was not excused from his own need of repentance. Jesus, the spotless, sinless, Lamb of God, fully divine, and yet fully man, comes for baptism.

John at first, refuses such an outlandish notion, and say’s I need to be baptized by you! Jesus say’s “We must fulfill all righteousness.” John agrees, and baptizes God made flesh, in a river of His own creation. And all who stood by, seen this divine interaction of the Trinity. How do we know this?

Matthew 3:16-17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

The witness of the Spirit was the great indicator, pronouncing Him as the Anointed one. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me…” Jesus Received the blessing of the Father and the commencement unto suffering began. Jesus is the suffering servant, Marks Gospel makes that evidently clear, over and over again.

James 1:2-6 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

How do we count it all Joy? Put your Faith in Jesus, instead of your own ability to win over satan, and trust His overcoming all temptation and providing us with a way of escape.
