Jasper Jones Courage Quotes

Courage is ‘the ability to do something that frightens one; bravery.’ I thought that at the start of the novel that charlie was a bit of a wimp that couldn't stand up for himself and was too afraid and didn't have enough courage to do anything for himself. I thought that charlie wished that he could overcome his fear and gain some courage, he sees some of the adults in his community and they are his only role models and they also do not have much courage. This novel has showed me that courage has become a bit of a rarity and it takes a lot of courage to stand up for someone such as when Miss Lu who is vietnamese gets bullied because of the war that was going on in vietnam and nobody stood up for her, this was partly because a lot of people …show more content…

‘Jasper Jones has a terrible reputation in Corrigan. He’s a Thief, a Liar, a Thug, a Truant. He’s lazy and unreliable. He’s feral and an orphan, or as good as. His mother is dead and his father is no good.’ Jasper Jones to charlie seems like the most courageous person in corrigan until charlie realises that Jasper is also a lot like him, he’s a scared kid. I thought that It showed a lot of courage when charlie's dad went over to help defend the Lu family from the drunk townsmen who were beating jefferies farther. This was mainly because it would of been an uncomfortable position for charlie's father because he is defending the vietnamese which for everyone else in the town is wrong because of the war going on in vietnam and since lots of husbands, sons and men have gone to war against them even though the Lu family hadn't done anything wrong it's just because of their race. This has showed me how important it is to stick up for others no matter what everyone else is saying or their race or anything because a lot of the time like in this situation Mr Lu was getting beaten and his wife get hit and his son was getting bullied just because of their race even though they were perfectly nice and friendly people. Another thing this novel taught me was that if you work hard and don't give up even when someone tells you too, don't because in the end if you work the hardest it will always pay off. This was demonstrated when Jefferies played cricket and would practice so much and when he finally made the team it turned out he was actually the best player on the team and got them a lot of runs and
