Water pollution Have you ever looked into a dirty body of water, and just thought how gross looking it is and how you don’t even want the water to touch you? If you have, than you should think twice before littering, even a small candy wrapper. Water pollution does not just magically happen, and can be stopped if humans would quit polluting the water. The picture shows a very polluted body of water, and could be easily fixed, if humans wouldn’t create water pollution by littering or dumping waste into the water. In the picture, there are not one, but two tires floating in Buckeye lake. Those tires did not just magically appear, someone threw them into the lake for no reason. Tires, may be one of the worst forms of pollution, not because they put off any dangerous gasses or chemicals, but because they form at home and breeding ground for mosquitoes (U.S.Environmental Protection Agency et al, p6, 1993). In the southern U.S there is two exotic species of mosquitoes commonly found in tires, that carry Yellow Fever and Dengue Disease, which afflict millions of people in the tropics(U.S.Environmental Protection Agency et al, p7, 1993). A foreign tire floating around in the water, that is supposed to attract tourists, makes the beautiful view of the water seem much less desirable to the tourists. Pop cans, grocery sacks, candy wrappers, glass bottles, and many other objects are commonly found in bodies of water due to humans littering. Even some things like peeing in a pond causes bacteria to grow, which could cause more algae to grow, maybe not a lot but over time, it would add up. Pop cans, or other metal tin cans that are thrown into the water are places where bacteria tend to grow, and it is also a place for mosquito larvae to grow and
