Support for Our Armed Forces Many people ask themselves, how can I show support for our armed forces? The answer is simple, there are many ways to show support and it just depends on which way you prefer. As Americans, it should be our civil duty to lend support to our armed forces. As you see a person in a military uniform you could walk up to them and shake their hand and tell them “Thank you for serving our country.” During the month of May it is National Military appreciation Month. Memorial Day is always the last Monday in May. Different ways to show support on this day could be to visit cemeteries and placing flags and flowers on the grave of fallen heroes. You can also fly your flag at half-staff until noon. Another way to show support …show more content…

We could give them a home to live in, and make sure they have everything they need to survive. In communities across America there are roughly 50,000 homeless veterans in America. I believe that men and women serving in the military should be better compensated for their service to this country (Shane). They are risking their lives for our freedom and should be better supported for their contributions. Everyone knows the dangers of being in the military, many military members put their lives on the line every day. Which makes them some of the most underpaid people in America. One the other hand there are many benefits military members enjoy that many people don’t consider. Military members receive tax free housing and food allowances, free health care, access to high tech training and other educational benefits. Thinking about all the things that people in the military go through, you would think that they would get paid more than they do right now. I think that if more money went to the military, they could be better supported, and better protected in case of an attack. If the military got more money in their budget they could use it for their VA care
When you look into veterans eyes, you can see several things that are important. The pride shines through, the pride of serving ones country, and the dedication to protect other peoples freedom even it if requires paying the ultimate price. These men and women give their lives to give us our freedom. As a one of the many individuals that they are protecting it is vital that we see that pride and appreciate where it comes from.
Firefighters, police officers, and military personal should be compensated more than other people because they risk their lives every day to keep citizens safe. It is never right just to view people as dollar signs because when you do this, you do not treat them like a humans and have no regard for their families. Taking both into consideration can account for the lack of resources while also understanding the emotional distress the families will go
Today we will be talking about homeless veterans and what I believe should happen to them. First I believe that all veterans deserve a home, food, running water and some money. I believe that the department of veterans affairs should get on this because according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
They who serve that we may enjoy the best America has to offer; FREEDOM AND PEACE AT HOME. Those who choose to serve in the ranks of our military do so voluntarily. Some first join to help pay for school. Some join in the pursuit of learning a job skill for when they return to the comfort of home and family. Others join because it was their childhood dream to take up the Profession of Arms. But whatever their reason they all volunteered to provide a necessary service to America and in so doing extended that service to the rest of the world. This service is manifested in providing comfort to our own citizens suffering from the devastation of Katrina two years ago to the current events which unfolded in the wild fires in California. They also brought hope and comfort to peoples of other nations such as the people who suffered in the earthquakes in Pakistan and those areas devastated by the tsunami a few years before. From the deadly beaches at Normandy, to jungle warfare in South Vietnam, the vast deserts of Iraq, or the hillsides of Bosnia-Herzegovina ... the American service men and women have contributed the brunt of the force required to provide sanctuary and hope for the weak and oppressed. Those veterans have answered the nations calling and have done and continue to do so proudly.
Veterans that are homeless should be housed. This is important because more and more people are signing up to join the army. The more people that sign up means, there will be more veterans that are homeless. The more homeless people that roam the streets means bad neighborhoods and even worse schools. More effort should be directed to help homeless veterans to get their lives back.
Our soldiers can’t afford the cost of living because they enrolled in the military at a young age. Adding a drug/alcohol free facility for our homeless veterans will reduce rates for everything. If we can’t take care of our own military personnel, who will ever want to serve for our country knowing they won’t get anything beneficial from it. The majority of our homeless veterans are males with the percent of 33. Even women are left homeless after returning home with a percentage of 10. The numbers for both male and female homelessness is said to rise as more people are enlisting into the service. People in today’s society take advantage of our soldiers and veterans. It’s very disrespectful knowing that there are veterans out there on the street and not one person will do anything. People need to start taking action to make a change. Without a change being made, soldiers are going to going to continue to be homeless and lack the care they need. (Cole para
The main reason why the military should be paid more is because compared to professional athletes there is an extreme gap of pay between them. “On average, NBA players make $5.15 million,
Hi, everybody. This week, America came together to salute our veterans – to express our appreciation to all who served so that we might live free. But our gratitude should extend beyond what our veterans have done for us in the past. It should remind us of our responsibility to serve them as well as they have served us. It should compel us to keep our veterans central to the ongoing work of this nation.
"The soldier is the Army. No army is better than its soldiers. The Soldier is also a citizen. In fact, the highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country” (-General George S. Patton Jr). Here within our borders we are the lucky ones, we have been blessed with the pleasure of so many brave men and women; to volunteer in the world's greatest military; and put their lives on the line for something that they believe is a moral obligation. But, think of some other countries, that have conscription (the practice of ordering people by law to serve in the armed forces) laws. We as a nation have some laws on conscription, and if you are male and above the age of 18 you have already signed the slip of paper stating that in the time of war; if our great nation re-instated the draft then there is a great chance you will be serving on the frontline of the next Great War. This brings me to my first topic of this page, is it ethical to have a draft? My second topic that I will discuss will be on if it is morally acceptable to "draft dodge". What I mean on the second topic is if you have a right; that morally allows you to not go fight in the war.
For comparison, 16% goes to the military and 60% goes to social programs like Social Security, unemployment, Medicare and health care.” (Rober) In the recent years there has been occasional increases in NASA's overall budget but these are so small they really aren’t doing much to help out this government program.
I agree that it is great that many military jobs are available to help employ Americans that really need jobs, however, that same money investing in the military could have created twice as many jobs in education or healthcare as in the military. Furthermore, military jobs do not result in useful actions. For instance, millions of people are unemployed and homeless while billions of dollars are spent to fuel, tanks, planes, ships, and to recruit and train young men and women, who may die in wars. Trained engineers and scientists are using their knowledge, to created weapons of destructions rather than using it to improve the lives of many. To add on, taxpayers pay to clean up the mess created by our
...ion or are already doing well to provide for their families, they should still be placed into the military. The American government should drill into the head of every adult that they know what’s best for them, because they do. This will ensure the prosperity and competitiveness of this country for many years to come!
The government needs to do a better job at providing and protecting its military veterans. America’s military personnel are what keep the United States safe, and money from unnecessary military projects could be used to pay the veterans back for their service. The government needs to shift spending from the military equipment to things like better scholarships for ROTC students, or better pay for enlisted servicemen. An average ROTC student receives from three hundred to five hundred dollars per month. This is a huge help to a college student, but when college tuition gets higher, the pay does not help enough and many students are still in need of financial assistance. Also, when many military servicemen leave the armed forces, they are left with close to nothing, and many do not have any help. According to a study done by the National Veterans Foundation, the poverty level for veterans is still around 7 percent. This is lower than the overall poverty rate, but it still leaves more than one and a half million veterans in poverty. The foundation believes that the government is,”unwilling to resolve the issues that have been plaguing our veterans”. Programs created to help veterans with things like education, housing, medical care, and disability are extremely beneficial to America’s heros. Even though there are already benefits like these, there is a need for more help and benefits for the veterans and
For many generations in my family, I have had relatives join and serve in the military. Whether it be a convoy truck driver, a cook, or a regular infantry soldier, they have done a bunch of jobs. My grandpa served in the Vietnam war, his job was a truck driver and never needed kill anyone because he never could do it. My uncle Sam served in Iraq and he was just an infantryman. They both served in the marines. I have had two uncles serve in the navy, one as a cook and one another infantry soldier. All of these men have absolutely made me desire to have the utmost respect for US
Today, our troops continue to make the ultimate sacrifices, and even as we lose troops, more Americans step forward to say, I am ready to serve. They follow in the footsteps of generations of fine Americans who have served.
