Coming from a Multimedia background, I am incredibly passionate about filming and editing. From an early age, I always loved playing around with cameras, filming as well as editing just anything that I enjoyed watching on TV, or even something filmed by myself. Being so passionate about film and editing have led me to doing my Bachelor of Creative Arts Honours. My goal for this year is to come up with 2 horror short films where I can showcase my skills in both filming and editing, as well as my creative thinking. This was inspired by Blumhouse. Blumhouse Productions is a multi-media production company that has pioneered a new model of studio filmmaking- producing high-quality micro-budget films for wide release (Blumhouse 2016). Blumhouse has produced some of the most highly profitable horror films, including: Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Insidious and Sinister franchises. “Unfriended” is a horror film which was shot entirely on Skype. The filmed involved a couple of friends communicating using Skype, where all the horror scenes happened during their Skype calls. Shooting a horror film entirely on a social media platform is something fresh and unique. Another film which took a fresh approach to the horror genre is “Fifteen”. Fifteen is a Halloween horror film shot live with a hand held device, shown live on Periscope. The film was shot from the killer’s point of view for the majority of the film, unlike any other traditional way of making a horror film where we are always put on the prey’s side, knowing minimal things about the predator. Shooting a horror film live using a hand held device and showing us the point of view of the killer is something entirely new to the horror genre. Being inspired by the Insidious film franchise, I want to make a horror - paranormal film, based on a haunted house sub-genre. The spirits within the film will belong to the house itself, unlike Insidious where the person was being haunted (Horror on Screen 2013). It could also be a particular room within the house where the film will be shot. The Insidious franchise are my favourite horror films of all time, which is why I am looking at it to help me with my own
