Parody of a Typical Horror Film

The idea for my production has come from unit 2 film and broadcast

fiction. I will be working within a group of four and we plan to

produce a parody of the typical horror film. We will also be combining

the fake world of horror films with the nearly real world of

docu-soaps to make the film more interesting. This is going to be

attempted by setting our horror within a docu-soap.

We will be using an omniscient narrative meaning the audience will

know more than what the characters do. This is to build up tension and

the audience therefore want to keep watching to see if we find out who

the killer is before it's too late. Our film will be a slasher movie

as it represents the contemporary horror films. In this style of film

there is usually little attention paid to any storyline or plot, which

often leaves the story making little sense and being quite sketchy in

places. This is often due to slasher films being over ridden by the

amount of blood and death, examples of this can be seen within the

films Scream 1, 2 and 3 and Urban Legend 1 and 2.

We will meet the conventions of a horror film by opening with a

dramatic death like 'Scream', which will set the scene and storyline

for the rest of the film. To make our film more interesting we will be

setting it at a docu-soap and will therefore contain a docu-soap style

of filming. We shall be showing our characters auditioning for parts

in a horror film that will be called 'Film Stars'. This was inspired

from the recent huge successes of 'Popstars' and 'Pop Idol'. We will

see each person saying to the judges' 'My name is...and I am

auditioning for the part of...'. By filming it in this style, and

having shots of the judges, the audience will be able to see where we

have incorporated the docu-soap with the horror. Furthermore we want

to give our film more of a light-hearted undertone by reinforcing the
