There is plenty of research showing how video game violence can cause people to be more aggressive. Video games can start out harmless and people may not think anything bad about them, but letting young children start playing them early can cause them to have some aggressive behavior or traits. Especially if they continue to play constantly and stay with it everyday for hours at a time. Children will tend to stay inside on nice days playing these violent video games. The video games that these kids are playing have a lot of killing and shooting in them, and it’s not good for kids to learn to have fun by staying inside and doing an excessive amount of shooting and killing against other players. Violent and inappropriate actions in these games is not something for children to be seeing or hearing. The conversation between a distraught mother and her son was disturbing because he used such vulgar and nasty language. The boy says to his mother, "I can change my appearance, grab the shopkeeper and shoot him. There will be blood on his body and he will die. Then I will take all the toys” (Violent Video Games Influence Children to Kill, 1). This little boy that had a conversation with his mother started using this language because he hears this language on the video games he plays. He knows what guns are and how they work. The mother responded by saying, "But good people don't hurt anyone”. He responded, "Yes, they do. Good people kill bad people, like Obi Wan and Darth Vader” (Violent Video Games Influence Children to Kill, 1). Young children are using words that they are learning from video games like, killing, shooting, blood, murder, and hitting as they are talking to the people in their everyday life. There are very few children who still like to go outside and play games with friends and play board games with family, because they spend most of their free time playing video games inside, whether it’s with people they meet by playing online video games or alone. America's outlook on violent video games is comparable to other industrialized nations with significantly fewer gun deaths. The majority of mass shooters are influenced and have plenty of experience with the new violent video games coming out all the time. The mass shooters age and gender groups also fit the target demographic and have high rates of mental illness (Kain, 1). There are also millions of people who don’t kill and don’t have some kind of mental illness. Research might want to start focusing on other possibilities that cause gun violence or violent behavior in general, such as mental health care, the access to firearms, and violent video games. Research between game playing and aggression is inconsistent. America's consumption of violent video games is comparable to other industrialized nations with significantly fewer gun deaths (Kain, 1). It is hard to get good research on this subject just because the point is not strong enough to draw to any kind of link between violent video games and violence in real life causing aggression. In 2012, a study found that cooperative playing in the graphically violent Halo II made the test subjects more cooperative, even outside of video game playing (Kain, 3).
