There was an event in my life that sort of changed me and that was ROTC because it’s about the military. I joined it because I want to be a marine and go fight for our rights and next to our county. This class has taught me discipline and respect, they have taught me the way of the marine. They taught me to bring credits to my family, county, and schools, to conduct myself of what I need to do to proceed. I have much more respectful and I’m not a kid anymore. I still have a couple habits that I need to change to go into the marines but I know they’ll change. When I’m in this class it makes me want to teach it because the world would be a better place. “I brought you guys here for better”. These are the words my mother told me many times as a boy and again not long ago. My mother has always pushed me in my education, and I finally realized that my junior year of high school. My grades in everything were outstanding this year, but I was still missing out on something. I was still not very involved in school. One day an individual from the American Legion came to our school to talk to all the juniors. He told us about an event that happens every year and in every state. It was a prestigious event to be accepted to. Having no real involvement in anything, I did not think for a second that I would be accepted, but, regardless, I applied, and two months later I received a call from that same man who told me I had been accepted. I was a big reluctant and indecisive about going because, aside from the fun and games, there was government learning and marching involved. I decided to go, and will never regret that decision. The experience there changed my views in so many ways. I met so many new people, greatly strengthened my skills in leadership, and I realized I had the potential to not only dream about my goals, but to live them as well.
According to Nofi, “The United States Marine Corps is America's best-known military unit and perhaps the most famous in the world” . The traditions of the Marine Corps date way back since 1775 and the current regulations have been derived from the way marines in the past carried out their day to day activities. Some customs have been incorporated into the current orders and regulations to be able to standardize conduct of the marines. It is important for a marine to know and keep in mind traditional customs because one should never forget their heritage, therefore, practiced tradition in the Marine Corps should take precedence over Marine Corps orders and regulations .
Meeting these heroes is what motivated me to apply. These brave warriors offered the ultimate sacrifice for their country. They became the best of the best. They became my role models and my idols. As I held my saber high above their heads, I realized what I wanted to do with my life; I want to be an aid to those in need while being the best I can be. I don’t want to be a hero. I just want to help find justice and peace in this world. I realized that day that the best way to do this would be to join the military. My original plan was to enlist, but I also want to go to college and continue to learn and better myself. Therefore, I made the biggest decision of my life. I decided to apply to the United States Military Academy. I decided to apply to stand side by side with some of the smartest, bravest, and toughest heroes America has to offer. Although I grew up in a military family, I never saw myself going into a military career. Up until I was about fourteen years old, I planned on being a marine biologist in Hawaii. Sounds nice, right? Well, at the end of my eighth grade year I decided that I might as well join NJROTC, because all of my friends were doing it and it seemed okay. I have to say, looking back, I was quite naive. Joining NJROTC was the smartest and most valuable decision I have made to this day.
The NJROTC, or Naval Junior Recruit Officer Training Corpse, is built not only to teach high school students about the navy but also allows student to become our great leaders of the future. In NJROTC cadets are asked to live up to very high standards because those students in NJROTC are thought of as the best of the best and are at that school to represent the military way of life. In this program I have learned three traits that will help me better myself not only in the future but in the day I live today. These traits that I speak of are discipline, punctuality, and respect. If not for NJROTC I would have not been as great a person and would have little or no direction in my life.
For years I have aspired to become a part of an elite organization such as the military, and more importantly, the United States Navy. Its reputation for instilling high moral character was encouragement for me to develop into a more mature, responsible, and independent young citizen. There are certain qualities that an officer must possess such as: honor, courage, commitment, and attention to duty, responsiveness to orders, cooperation, loyalty, leadership, integrity, and discipline. Throughout my high school career, I showcased these qualities while an active member of The American Legion of Ohio Buckeye Boy’s State, The National Honor Society, as a leader in the Ohio State Highway Patrol Junior Cadets, Clay and Waite High School Marching Band Alumni, Quiz Bowl, and Top Ten Scholars. I was actively involved in charitable activities such as Math and SOS tutoring, community volunteering, and the Indian 100 Leadership Team, (a volunteer organization on my high school campus). There are many things that have impacted my life in a positive way as a result of my military service. For starters, joining the Navy was huge. It got me organized and opened my eyes to an entirely new world, and not just the military service world. The variety of experiences that I’ve had in the service interacting with people from all over the world has helped me grow as a person. However, from the day I entered service, one item or one rank in the structure of the Navy struck me as critical to the operation of the Navy. That item or rank was the position of the Chief Petty Officer. As I entered service I quickly discovered that the Chief was the go to guy and the old saying “ask a chief” had a profound meaning. The Chief was a leader, mentor, and an expert in just about everything, all qualities that I lacked at the time. Then, twelve or so years later, the life changing event for me of being selected as a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy came to fruition.
This career is important to society because every great nation needs warrior’s battle ready to defend it from oncoming threats and onslaughts. These brave young men and women defend and fight for those who can’t do it for themselves. Fighting a war test a soldier’s skill but defending his home tests a soldier’s heart. I took this class for an elective class my freshman year to junior year. --My high school in Purvis, Mississippi didn’t have it--. Everyone I knew was in the class, therefore it was a must have class. There were drills, promotion boards, PT, and boot camps where we would rappel off towers and do other crazy things. My classmates felt like family after a very short time. I kept the class when my family and I moved from Germany to Texas. My Chief in Texas was just the sweetest old man. He could make you feel at home even if it wasn’t his home. His motivation, advice and care to see me succeed contributed to my grades in high school and my decision to join the military.
This year marks the 100-year anniversary of the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, otherwise known as JROTC. It has existed in many high schools nationwide since it came into existence in 1916 and, like many things, has changed with the passage of time. Originally, it was used as means to recruit students and possible candidates for the armed forces. Now, though, it is a program that teaches high school students a plethora of life skills and cultivates a sense of leadership and independence within them. It is a tradition that is likely to continue in high schools all over the United States for many years to come.

As a whole, students are involved in many more activities. Such as let competition, JCLC, and more. As the JROTC cadets has grown, the more the Hall of Fame will grow. One thing cadets need to control is the respect and attitude. As a whole in the state of Georgia, JROTC will impact the younger ones that enter high school. It shows students how to speak out more in front of other students. It also shows cadets how to be more of ourselves than being anyone else. Its different because its less physical training than it was back in the past. JROTC has even encourage more people to go into services to join the military. Do to that it helps more students stay out of trouble in school and out of school. JROTC instructors wants cadets to know what the world is about and how to live with the knowledge that we have. Students turn into cadets to make a difference in the school, country, and at home. JROTC is about doing our best and getting rewarded for the good things we do, individually and as a whole. Over the past years, students take control of the whole company. Which has impacted people to do good, because it opens other people's eyes and then others wants to copy the leaders. When teachers realize that some of his/her students are in ROTC, they will expect more respect and discipline in them. JROTC is not like any other classes, it's more about leadership and
Gifts, people, pets, memories and actions are some of the countless things people remember in their high and low points in life. From time to time, I dwell on the things that impacted my life, and the most meaningful one of which was attaining my high school diploma. To begin with, I was not fond of school when I reached high school. Then, I made a decision to join the Armed Forces and did not know I needed a high school diploma to join. Eventually, I ended up with a high school diploma and an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, that I now find extremely helpful, as I am in college. Given these points, I can say that I am extremely proud of myself and I am looking forward to accomplish much more in the near future.
Army life can be very challenging and a life changing experience. It was very challenging and life changing for me. I was raised by my Grandparents they did everything for me so this was a wakeup call for me on life. An independent person was not I, so I had problems with the changes about to come. Army life is constantly demanding and constantly changing without notice. Although the travel was exciting, army life for me was very challenging because I had to learn to adapt to a new system, to share my life with other soldiers, and to give up many of the comforts of home.
[Actually,] I had so many reasons for wanting to do this. The first was for money. The military was willing to train me, feed me, house me, and when I was back home give me cash for college, "up to" forty thousand dollars. At that time I thought that was an incredible deal. Where else in the world could I find an opportunity like this one? [Yet t]he price I would pay wouldn't be worth "up to" forty thousand. Another great reason for joining the Army was to get in shape. I had visions about this ultra lean and strong body I would get from running five miles a day. I was also looking forward to the overall experience of inner strength, confidence, and pride in my country.
