Northern Neglect Killed Reconstruction How did the Northern Neglect kill Reconstruction?After the Civil War, Reconstruction had started. A lot of important things started happening, building were being destroyed.Railroads and factories were demolished. Reconstruction was supposed to make everything better. However Reconstruction did not last. The Northern Neglect made Reconstruction end. The Northern Neglect killed Reconstruction by having a better government.. With a better government they were able to control more. Until President Grant started to get to busy looking for government frauds. D) The sick of carpet-bag government is people who were tired of people who went south to help freedmen and Reconstruction.(Hook Exercise) Slaves or blacks was a corruption in their government. “Sixteen African Americans were elected to Congress and numerous others served at state and local levels.”(Background Essay Par. 3) People started to lose faith. According to the Boston Evening Transcript believe that blacks couldn’t be government officials because they didn't know what to do. “Blacks needed a period of probation and instruction.” (Richardson Doc.D) Northerners lost interest in Reconstruction because the African Americans were always arguing. “Northern artist’s portrayal of the South Carolina State Legislature during Reconstruction” (Harper's Weekly Doc.
