Recommended: Analysis of 2 Timothy 3:1-3

To put it simply, God wrote the Bible. He controlled every word that was written in it. Paul sums it up to say in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that God inspired the Scripture. Peter also agrees with Paul and adds in 2 Peter 1:20-21 that the Bible is the Word of God by the power of the Holy Spirit and is extremely trustworthy. Yet, because of all this, God is not the only author. He used divine inspiration to get the men to write the text in the Bible. Peter talks about in 2 Peter 1:20-21 that the Holy Spirit inspired the men to write it. This does not mean that God gave the men ideas or overpowered them. God picked these men because of their traits, interests, and skills, and the Holy Spirit motivated them to write the Bible in their unique way. Because

    In the Beginning: Bibles Before the Year 1000 is a great exhibit for people in their teenage years and anyone older. I really like the way the web page is set up. There is a video interview playing at the start of each informational page at the top of the page and there are pictures in the video and to the right of the text of the different discoveries of ancient biblical texts. I like all of the visual aids in this exhibit. In the Beginning: Bibles Before the Year 1000 is an exhibit I would recommend to anyone interested in the history of the bible; it is very informative and user friendly. I enjoyed reading about the ways that Christianity spread throughout the world and how the bible evolved from papyrus, parchment, and animal skins to leaf-books, manuscripts, and hard cover books. I admire that the creator of the exhibit has included a “resources” tab at the top of the page for people to view a chronological list of the events talked about in the exhibit. There was also a “who’s who” section in the “resources” tab explaining who each character in the exhibit was throughout history and their importance.

    The Old Testament and the Bible itself has been studied extensively for centuries. Archeologists and Scholars have labored and pondered over texts trying to decipher its clues. It does not matter how many times the Old Testament has been studied there will always be something new to learn about it or the history surrounding it. In the book Reading the Old Testament: an Introduction, the author Lawrence Boadt presents us with a few different authors of the Old Testament that used different names for God and had a unique insight into the texts. These four sources are titled P for priests, E for Elohim, J for Jehovah, and Y for Yahweh (95). These four unique sources help us realize that there is more than one author of the Pentateuch. These authors took the text and adapted for their culture. This independent source is used by scholars to help gain insight into what was behind the texts of the bible so we are not left with an incomplete picture of what went into the creation of the bible. Julius Wellhausen used these four sources to publish a book to able us to better understand the sources and to give it credibility with the Protestant scholars at the time (Boadt 94). These sources that is independent of the bible as in the DVD Who Wrote the Bible? and the Nova website aide in shedding light on the history that surrounded the writers who wrote the text and what inspired them to write it in the first place. The DVD shows the discovery of The Dead Sea Scrolls and the extensive history of the texts and all its sources in an effort to try to find exactly who wrote the bible (Who Wrote).
