As Horatio's lawyer and citizen of this country I believe that Horatio is the best candidate for the throne of Denmark. By choosing Fortinbras this country will place itself in the same dangerous spot as when Claudius was crowned king. Claudius was a wicked king, whose rule was based on wicked deeds, such as the murder of those around him.
Perhaps even more innocent than Ophelia in Shakespere’s Hamlet is Horatio. This essay will treat his character in depth, including many literary critical evaluations.
In the prince’s absence, distraught Ophelia's descent into madness over Polonius's unfortunate death, later causes her to drown while singing love songs. Meanwhile, Prince Hamlet escapes from his planned execution, switches Claudius's letter to the king of England and arranges for the execution of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Laertes, Polonius’s son, joins with the kings and plots on avenging his father and sister.
Hamlet and Fortinbras grew up in completely different countries, but still ended up having similar lifestyles. Both Hamlet and Fortinbras are princes and ere to the thrones in their kingdoms. Hamlet’s father died due to a “snake bite”, and the crown was not given to Hamlet but his Uncle Claudius. Fortinbras’s father died due to a duel, and the crown was also given to his Uncle as well. Hamlet was told that his father was murdered and decided to hatch a plan to avenge his father. Fortinbras’s father was killed in a duel against Hamlet’s father and was killed. Fortinbras made a plan of invading Denmark and avenging his father that way.
All animals know how to live, eat, and kill, but what sets humans apart is God’s gift of thought. A human’s actions are influenced by their thoughts that go on through their brain. The thought system can trigger an inaction or action of a situation. Throughout the Shakespearean Tragedy Hamlet, the protagonist Hamlet demonstrates his thought process where he is sometimes in conflict with carrying out initiatives. Hamlet is trapped in a situation where he must determine how he should avenge his father’s death. Vengeance for a father’s death was a common theme throughout the tragedy and characters such as Hamlet, Laertes, and Fortinbras embody this. Is Claudius a worthy adversary for Hamlet? Some would argue that Claudius was not even close to being worthy enough to be Hamlet's opponent but if you look at all of the evidence in the play, you might think otherwise. First of all, Claudius was obviously worthy if Hamlet is the one who chose to seek revenge. There are also so many minor details that add up to compare Claudius with Hamlet. Claudius was a lot smarter than people gave him credit for. He was clever enough to devise a plan to kill the king, he had spies all around watching Hamlet's every move, and he found a way to become king.
In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, the character Horatio plays a quintessential role in gaining a deeper understanding on the perplexing tragic hero, Hamlet, from the perspective he has about him. Horatio’s sensible ideology becomes apparent as he takes on the role of the spokesman of common sense, attempting to advise the stubborn tragic hero about his destructive journey towards revenge. Additionally, because of the true friendship Horatio presents Hamlet, it leads him to confide in Horatio about his secrets and plans, thus highlighting his essential role in bringing out Hamlet’s true intentions. Hamlet, after learning that his father's death was a murder and vowing to take revenge, wants to be certain that what he has been told is the absolute truth before he attempts to take revenge on Claudius. Even after Hamlet is sure beyond any shadow of a doubt that Claudius is the murderer, he hesitates to kill him. Fortinbras, on the other hand, has been taking action even before the play begins. As the play opens, the audience learns that Denmark is in a state of alert; the country has been preparing for a war. From Horatio, the audience also learns that the young Fortinbras is getting ready his "lawless resolutes"(I.i.111) for action against Denmark for the killing of his father and for the return of lands previously owned by Norway (I. i. 79-107). These differences between Hamlet and Fortinbras' actions are further mentioned in Hamlet's last soliloquy (IV. iv. 32-66).
The relationship between Odysseus and his wife Penelope is one of loyalty, love, and faith. Both characters are driven by these characteristics. Odysseus displays his loyalty in his constant battle to get home to his wife. This love helps him persevere through the many hardships that he encounters on his journey home. Odysseus spent 20 years trying to return to his home in Ithaca after the end of the Trojan War. Along the way he manages to offend both gods and mortals, but through his intelligence, and the guidance of Athena, he manages to finally return home. Sir Fortinbras and noble knights of the army of Norway, I stand before you today to tell a tale of a martyred hero to whom we must remember. Hamlet be thy name. He was a friend and a leader. About eight months ago Hamlet was distraught, I'd never seen him like this before. He had a good excuse, I mean his father had just died, his mom, god rest her soul, remarried not even a month afterwards. Hamlet's affair with Ophilia was dwindling in his giant fire of emotions. Ophilia was the kings' servant's daughter. The king's servant was Polonious. Polonious did not want Ophilia with Hamlet, nor did Ophilia's brother Laertes. Hamlet was under a lot of pressure, but it wasn't until a few of the guards and myself saw a ghost whom we believed was Hamlet's deceased father. This was the point of all of our lives were you either take one path or the other each leading you in a total different direction. Hamlet went to the guard tower with us the next night and reasoned to our favor that the ghost did in fact perpetuate the look of King Hamlet. The ghost made a follow me motion to Hamlet and we grabbed him. Please do not follow Sir Hamlet, I pleaded. The spirit was insistent and Hamlets gut instinct drove him to follow the floating omen. I know not the exact words that the ghost spoke that night but from what I understand, he was back from the dead to inform his son that he had not died from the rumorous snake bite which had been presumed. King Hamlet's brother, the current King Claudius, had murdered him while he lay in the garden by pouring poison in his ear. The ghost also informed Hamlet of an affair that his mother had been having with Claudius. This bit of information stunned and enraged if you will Hamlet. Hamlet knew not what to believe. After all the ghost could have just as easily been the devil himself for all we knew.
...dience that Horatio is very honorable because he is one of the two surviving characters in the play. If Horatio had the morals of everybody else in the play, he would likely be dead as well. As a result of Horatio having the traits, trustworthiness, loyalty, and admiration for Hamlet, he is able to be in the fortunate positions of Hamlet’s friend, and one of two surviving characters. Shakespeare often makes a character in his plays who is ethical and honest compared to the other characters, such as Benvolio, in Romeo and Juliet. By keeping Horatio alive, Shakespeare shows the audience that Horatio is this character in Hamlet. Although Fortinbras also survives, Horatio is morally superior, especially because of Fortinbras’ violent nature. Thus, as a result of his trustworthiness, loyalty, and admiration, Horatio is the most virtuous character in Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
Firstly, Fortinbras is very open and bold about avenging his father’s death and killing the new king of Denmark. Everyone knows about his plan to attack Denmark even Horatio, a friend of Hamlet who attends Wittenberg University and just came to Denmark to see the ghost of the dead King Hamlet. He is the first person in Act 1 to talk about Fortinbras and his revenge plans when he says, "Now, Sir, young Fortinbras / Of unimproved metal, hot and full / Hath in the skirts of Norway, here and there / Shark’d up a list of lawless resolutes" (Shakespeare I. i. 95-98). Horatio words suggest that everyone knows Fortinbras plan and it is not a secret to anyone in Denmark. Hamlet on the other hand is the polar opposite of this as he is very sly and quiet about his plan to avenge his father’s death. Even when his friends ask him about what the ghost says to him, he does not tell them about what the ghost says or what his revenge plan is. He also tells his own friends to swear to secrecy about seeing the ghost:

Claudius was a master of manipulation by convincing several people within this story to do his dirty deeds. Or did the Claudius love Denmark so much and didn’t want to see it go to war and decided to take matters into his own hands by killing King Hamlet. Thus, in his mind saving his beloved Denmark.
