Honor courses taught me self-management and persistence but most importantly they taught me how to face a challenge. However this school year, I had four to five honors classes and was struggling, so I started asking for help. This was particularly prevalent when I leaped from pre-cal to AP Calculus BC. I visited my calculus teacher every morning before school start for help. Because of my hard work and persistence, my teacher nominated me for the “Student of the Term”. I visited my counselor for advice about college selection and realized that there are many additional resources available that are incredibly helpful, which is why I am applying for UIC Honors College. UIC Honors College will provide additional resources outside the classroom, such as advisor guidance and experienced premium faculty to mentor me, exceptional classmates to keep me focused, and facilities like computer labs, study rooms, and social lounges. Although I am a freshman, UGA is not that foreign to me. My sister just recently graduated in May of 2015. Because of this, it has allowed me to have a personal mentor in getting familiar with the campus and different activities being held on campus. So far I have loved my time here at UGA, with its beautiful campus, unlimited admission to dining halls, and variety of activities to get involved with. College has exceeded what my expectations were coming from high school. However, the process of becoming a Bulldog was not as smooth as I was hoping it would have been.
