As an aspiring physician, one of my main reasons for joining the Honors College is to gain the best possible scientific education that I possibly can in my undergraduate years at Purdue. Through the Honors College, I would gain prioritized access to research opportunities and certain classes. With the prioritization to research opportunities, I would be capable of grasping scientific concepts in a real world environment, which is pivotal to my success in the medical field. I would be able to delve deeper into concepts that may have been unavailable to me if I would not have been a part of the Honors College. The sense of community established through the Honors College residential dorms would influence me to aid my fellow college students in challenging topics which I may already understand. This would create a sense of communal learning that many colleges lack, due to the competitive nature of the university. In this way, I along with my peers would both be able to reach our academic potential. Additionally, priority that I would obtain for undergraduate research would allow me to not only benefit from an increased understanding of science but would allow me to contribute to the research community. Through a prolonged experience in scientific research from my freshman year onward, I would be able to make many innovative contributions to the research that I would be working on. Furthermore, the Honors College would foster my leadership qualities. As an honors student, I would be among others who are as academically talented as I am. Being constantly surrounded by those of similar academic talent would push me to be a leader to those who may be struggling in the collegiate environment. An HBCU is a college/university that embeds the nature of power and black excellence; a place with surroundings that doesn’t force you, but makes you want to push yourself to become a better person inside and out, and throughout the community. Transferring would allow myself to be put in an atmosphere of continuous motivation and growth that I would feed off of my superiors and the people around me.
I began my college career unsure of the path ahead of me. I knew I had a passion for medicine, however, I did not know which direction I would take. With the expansive amount of options offered within the fields of science and medicine, it was difficult to narrow down exactly what direction I wanted to take. I gained some clarity the summer of my sophomore year when I stayed at a close friend’s home, whose father, a practicing Medical Physician, became somewhat of a mentor to me. Admittance into the University of Georgia’s Honors Program would push me to continually test my potential in the pursuit of my Pre-Medical studies. I take pride in challenging myself to completely master a field of study that enhance my capabilities, and therefore, prepare myself to strive for my next goal in life. In order to grow into a better and improved self, one would need to test unfamiliar waters and reach new heights. My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.
For these courses to be successful, the students as well as the professor must be on board and on the same page. To define an ideal Honors Course will help the student get on track with the Honors curriculum. One must first define an honors course for themselves, identify the objectives and to identify the possible outcomes one wishes to achieve. The primary reason I am applying to Molloy College is my desire to earn the education and qualifications in order to provide more involved care for my patients at work. I have known for some time that I have always wanted to be a nurse. Therefore, in April 2007 I enrolled in a program to become a certified nurse’s aide and earned my New York state certification in July 2007. I began working immediately at a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in November 2007; I also began working in a hospital starting April 2015. Being employed at both facilities is what led me to fall in love with a career in nursing, all while allowing me to gain a wonderful amount of experience caring for a diverse population as well as working with a diverse population of health care professionals.
Meanwhile, I would transfer to attend the University of Texas at Arlington. Once I start the school year, I am going to surround myself with young people, who are motivated, caring and determined, too successful in their academics as well as their personal lives. I want to strengthen my communication skills, study harder, and improve my time management skills. And maintain myself there to obtain my Bachelor Science Degree and can go deeper and higher level status in my career field. Some would say this is just because they’re the people I have to spend the majority of my time with, but that isn’t true. I love spending time with people who willingly form study groups and have strong interests in academic subjects. Even if I’m just going to Panera to hang out with someone, I usually end up learning something new or teaching. In college, I want to continue to surround myself with the type of people who read about Middle Eastern relations or write computer codes in their free time. Residing in Toscanini College will allow me to continue surrounding myself with fellow lovers of learning both inside and outside of my classes. I’d love to participate in a Pizza and Game Night or see a Broadway show with friends through the unique opportunities the Honors College has to offer. While the Honors College courses will allow me to be intellectually stimulated in school, the social activities offered will allow this intellectual stimulation to extend to the world
I will definitely enjoy the independence of campus life. The camaraderie, which will develop, should only add to the college experience. The courses will be challenging but I am willing to do what it takes to achieve my ultimate goal, which was alluded to earlier. The untapped potential is there. I would like to be given the opportunity to show what I can accomplish.
AP students often sacrifice many aspects of their teen lives. To gain success later on life, many of these students take hard-level classes. Instead of partying and enjoying their teenage lives, many are often seen doing all their homework and getting their work done. These students often sacrifice most of their time doing extracurricular activities and schoolwork instead of enjoying their teenage years. I have loved government and policy since I was a government relations intern in Florida. Towards the end of my undergraduate education I was offered an internship with the Department of State in Washington, DC and I knew that no other city would provide me with the opportunity experience so many facets of government in a central location. Since my move to DC I have been able to flourish and grow my career in government relations and contracting. I have worked for various agencies and federal offices in a variety of capabilities. The more I worked the more I loved what I saw as the endless possibilities of my careers. My desire to grow my career, and seek out management opportunities, led me to explore graduate schools and I set my view on American University (AU).
Community is a feeling of fellowship with others, which is a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. Walking across campus, I feel a sense of community among all students I encounter, we are all here for the Indiana University experience. But what I have found is a deeper community within the honors courses I have taken thus far, which have given me a focal point for my Kelley experience. One of the most valuable things I have gained from the honors courses is setting up a network for myself, established from being able to interact with like-minded individuals.
