Management Goals
In order to achieve my mission statement I need to create realistic goals to obtain a positive and student centered learning environment. My mission statement as a high school physical education teacher is to educate students on how to become physically literate, which will in turn, motivate my students to take responsibility of their health and adopt habits that support a healthy wellbeing. The goals to support that are to establish a set of rules that protect my students emotionally and physically, to create a lesson in which every student can succeed, and to produce a positive learning environment. High school students’ priorities consist of what their friends think and wanting to do things their way. A strategy to accomplish establishing the rules while also giving my students autonomy is to allow them to help create the rules and consequences for their actions. By doing so, students will know what to expect when they behave in a certain way and with me approving the rules I will be able to incorporate every rule I want for the classroom. Allowing students to have a say in the rules gives them responsibility, which is the second strategy I plan to use to achieve my first goal. Holding my students accountable in regards to breaking the rules will let them know that the rules are important and will build a mutual respect between them and myself. My last strategy to obtain my first goal is to never be bias with students. Students in high school want to be treated fairly. Each student is different but the set of rules will cover a broad range of students’ personalities. For example, writing on the poster two different consequences of the same degree for one action. A positive learning environment is a place where students learn through enhanced motivation. I want students to know that I recognize and appreciate the effort that they put forth in class. My first strategy for achieving this goal is to use positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement gives the student motivation to continue doing what has been asked and other students’ motivation to do what has been asked properly. Students do not like to be scolded and teachers would become exhausted if they constantly focused on the negatives of a situation. My second strategy would be to have a routine that students know but is broad enough to remember. I do not want to have a complex routine for each day of the week that students can get confused. This will lead to frustration for them and myself if they cannot follow directions. The last strategy is to personally get to know my students. By having an idea of their personal background I will have better insight on how they view the world around them and why they may act in a certain
