The presence of Helicobacter pylori infection of the upper gastrointestinal tract has been found to be more common in rural non-developed areas in India. Many factors contribute to this infection, which is often then associated into becoming peptic ulcer disease and gastric cancer. Many parts in the developing country of India consist of diets low in fruits, vegetables, and high intake of sodium such as salted fish (Fock & Ang, 2010). The insanitary conditions also have increased risks of Helicobacter pylori transmission to others and a growing rate of the infection across India.

Helicobacter pylori is bacteria that inhabit the gastric mucous area of the stomach and was first discovered in 1982. Specific diet that involves spicy food, low fruit and vegetable intake, and lifestyle are main causes of the infection. It has been the cause to majority of population that develops duodenal ulcers or gastric ulcers (CDC, 2006). It is a common pre-condition to many serious digestive diseases when left untreated. Adding a high amount of fiber is needed with fruits and vegetables. Foods such as celery, apples, and onions have showed to directly affect the h. Pylori bacteria to disappear. Calcium and B complex vitamins are essential for diet treatment, along with low fat foods to prevent infection (Cranston, 2013). A diet high in essential nutrients is important in obtaining daily, so supplements are likely to be taken. There are specific food that can make symptoms worse, which are alcohol, processed/refined foods, high salt and sugar intake, too much caffeine, and very spicy foods (Cranston, 2013).
