By now you have probably heard of the gender pay gap, but what does it really mean? And what exactly does gender bias have to do with paychecks? Women are not given the same amount on their paycheck as their counter male parts. Equal work between men and women does not mean equal pay. It is clear that in history, women have never been paid equally to men. Because we live in a broken society, women receive a smaller pay than men for the same work. This is unfair and sexist. Women should receive just as much as men do for equal work. Although it may seem as though women do not work as hard or can not become leaders, that is not the case. When a woman attempts to get a job in leadership, They may have a harder time than men. This affects their pay because many women struggle to find superior jobs in the first place. There are 190 heads of states yet only 9 are women. According to Ted Talk, Sheryl Sandberg states “Of all the people in parliament around the world, 13% are women.” In other words, all around the world, there are only 13% of women working in parliament. This means that 87% of the parliament is men. Women in leadership are when a woman is employed as a leader of some sort in the workplace. More sports fans watch men’s sports than women's sports. In the New York Times article “Pay Disparity In U.S. Soccer? It’s complicated” by Andrew Das, the text states “Yes. Over the long term, the more established men’s game brings in consistently higher game revenue year over year.” This means that men do bring in more money because they attract more viewers than women do. Also, men’s sports attract more sponsors as well. On the other hand, in the year 2015, the U.S. women’s soccer team won the World Cup and brought in more than $23,000,000 in revenue. While the men only brought in $6,000,000 in revenue. Revenue means income from a company or an organization of a substantial nature.
