Introduction A recently published article in the Independent sought to uncover the mystery behind how women in the United Kingdom are underpaid with figures revealing an annual gap of one hundred and forty thousand billion Euros between what they earn compared to what their male counterparts earn (Bulman, 2018). The article authored by Mary Bulman, who is a social affairs correspondent working with the newspaper, revealed how female employees earn far much less than what other male employees with equal or in some instances, less qualifications earn. Background to the geographical inequality This form of inequality has for many years now been seen to have a geographical aspect to it. Ideally, most women in many countries are paid less than what male employees earn. This has been attributed to a number of factors that the employers attribute to being behind the idea. First, they attribute this to the work input that men bring in compared to women. Most of them say that the work ethics of male employees are better compared to female employees in many scenarios. The study showed that men who possess equal qualification to women, earn an average of seventy-seven cents more on the dollar compared to that which women carrying out the same duties earn. However, the study also revealed that this gap goes as high up as eight-five cents in some states with as low as seventy cents in others (Casserly, 2013).
