Topic: Friendship and Overcoming Adversity
Story: “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck ( a story about the hardships of two diverse men and their friendship)
Literary Text: “Finding Nemo” by Andrew Stanton

Introductory Claim: Of Mice and Men- Both “Of Mice and Men” and “ Finding Nemo” both display an example of friendship and overcoming adversity within the novel and movie.

Body 1:
Of Mice and Men-
Claim: Steinbeck displays the ideal of friendship and overcoming adversity within his novel through the hardships of Lennie and George.
Evidence:

With the setting as the Great Depression in the 1930s, George and Lennie of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men have overcome the adversity of being unemployed as they pursue work through Murray and Ready.In addition, they are bindle stiffs and are among other dispossessed males who must ride railroad cars and migrate from job to job. However, they are not alone like most of the other workers; due to the fact they have the friendship and trust of one another. In the beginning to the end George and Lennie share the hope of having a little farm of their own on which they can live on "the fat of the land" someday. (Citation) With this dream, they conquer the terrible alienation that men without homes encounter. Thus, George and Lennie overcome the adversities of poverty, alienation, and despair while staying true to their friendship.

In the novel, Lennie faces the adversity in explaining himself to the rest of the world. Thus ,Lennie’s adversity is his mental illness which he is continuously throughout the book trying to overcome.Since ,he is mentally challenged, most people, even George intermittently, underestimates his intelligence and logic skills. Conclusion

Steinbeck’s novel involves the hardships of two diverse dispossessed males . Stanton’s film explains the struggle to find a lost little clown fish. The setting and seriousness are different in these two attributes however the topic of friendship and overcoming adversity is present in both. It is clear that Steinbecks displays friendship and overcoming adversity through the hardships of George and Lennie .Stanton displays friendship and overcoming adversity through journey to find Nemo. Marlin and Dory convey the ideal of friendship due to the fact they share the same goal and conquer their adversities at the same time.Steinbeck and Stanton may have created two solely diverse stories but if these two got together and composed another story, the entire world would then truly understand friendship and overcoming adversities.
