Issues with Parking on Campus Have you ever had issues with parking on campus? Were you given a ticket? If so, many other students and myself across the nation have experienced the same thing. Many of times, students are not as fortunate to park in a parking lot or deck simply because there is no room or space available, so what are some ways that this matter can be resolved?

To begin this essay, we are prompted with the question “What should be done to improve the parking on UNA’s campus?”. One can simply say that there needs to be a new lot specifically for students or teachers, but they must realize that the process may take a while. UNA’s parking lots are already small, but there are a few ways to help improve them. Another issue at hand is that students also have a high risk for receiving a ticket if they are either parked in the wrong designated spot, or if they have surpassed the time limit of fifteen minutes. But still the main question at hand is what can be done to improve these conditions?

Even though the officers are only doing their jobs, some students are issued tickets when the only option that they have available is to park in the handicapped spaces, or in the fifteen minute spaces behind and to the left of Rice Hall. The other day I was issued a ticket for parking in the handicapped spaces besides Mattie Lou’s building. This was the only option available to me since students already filled the fifteen minute spaces and the loading area for trucks. To make it an even more pressuring factor, the parking authority only allows up to ten days to pay the ticket before they begin to put your academic status on hold, and add more money to the ticket for any extra days that one does not pay their ticket.
