I as a student want to at least get a bachelor's degree, however I would love to get my masters degree if I can afford the costs of college, I want to be successful in my life, along with creating a way for me to work a job that i will enjoy. I plan on achieving these goals by making something out of myself with the knowledge that I gain with attending college, as well as using that knowledge with my life skills to create a better standing for myself in the work force. This year I have explored the forensic field through a class at high school has set in stone my major, considering that I have fallen in love with the examination and collection of evidence from crime scenes. The major that I plan on getting will be in criminal justice. I have always loved …show more content…
In my chemistry class we did a forensics unit where we figured out a killer from evidence. Ever since then I was hooked on forensic science. My senior year I took a class of forensic science and that is what set in stone what I decided I wanted to be when I got out of high school. Through the class I fell in love with all of the new things I learned, as well I found what I really wanted to do with my life. I have always watched crime shows with my mother, And finding out all of the ways that criminals can be caught is invigorating. I enjoy learning new things all the time and using that knowledge. When I started my senior year I really like forensic science, and I concluded that if I liked the class that I took my senior year that I would decide if I wanted to Major in criminal justice. So from here on out I have decided that solving crimes is what I want to do with my life. The fact that I love what I am doing will help me do my job better, as well as help other people. I've always been that person that wanted to help others, and this is a way that I can help others and do something that I love. This degree and major will help
I chose to research the profession of a homicide detective. This profession interests me because I find solving a puzzle satisfying, by picking up the pieces (evidence) and fitting them together I can solve the mystery of the homicide. This of course is something I will have to work toward, as I cannot become one right out of the gate. First I will have to be a police officer. I have to be a police officer first because I need to gain experience in the criminal justice world and with victims/ suspects. Depending on the town I choose to pursue my career in I could have to start as a patrol officer or at a jail. I am doing things now to try and set myself apart from other candidates so if the time does ever come for a promotion I can be one step
Forensic evidence can provide just outcomes in criminal matters. However, it is not yet an exact science as it can be flawed. It can be misrepresented through the reliability of the evidence, through nonstandard guidelines, and through public perception. Forensic science can be dangerously faulty without focus on the ‘science’ aspect. It can at times be just matching patterns based on an individual’s interpretations. This can lead to a miscarriage of justice and forever alter a person’s life due to a perceived “grey area” (Merritt C, 2010) resulting in a loss of confidence in the reliability of forensic evidence.
The two majors I decided to research were Criminal Justice and Secondary Education. The major I went into Oshkosh of declaring was Criminal Justice. I became interested in Criminal Justice after watching Criminal Minds and doing a ride-along with my aunt, who is a police officer in Sheboygan Falls. As far as Secondary Education, I have always loved being around kids. When I was young I played school with my sister. I’ve also loved math, it has always been my best subject. I am more interested in Secondary Education as of now, which is why I interviewed a middle school math teacher, but I am still interested in learning more about Criminal Justice because I still find it extremely interesting.
Criminal justice is one of the most important majors one can study due to the necessity to keep the streets safe and clean. From street cops, to state troopers all the way to criminal psychologists the criminal justice system is a very important part of modern society as it keeps us safe from murders, rapists and various other criminals. The street cops are the ones that are out on our streets protecting every citizen. It can be as simple as writing a parking ticket on a car that is illegally parked, to arresting murderers and rapist in a quiet neighborhood in the suburbs. The cops are the ones that are keeping our streets more safe for families everywhere. The main thing I want to learn about Criminal Justice is where I can go with my degree. By studying criminal justice I would like to be able to pursue my dreams of becoming a Drug enforcement agent so that I can help make neighborhoods safe and take bad people off the public streets.
I have seen that being a criminal justice major is awesome, because the jobs that are associated with a criminal justice major are really interesting to me. Being a criminal justice major has been something that I have wanted to do since I was watching crime TV shows when I was a little kid. These shows had most of my interest and the character that I would love to be is obviously the lead detective. I have always wanted to be the one who caught the break in the case that eventually led to the apprehension of the person that committed the crime. That is why I watched shows like Monk, Criminal Minds, Psych, etc. Basically if the show had crime in it and there were people trying to catch the criminal I was most likely glued to the TV. There have also been a lot of issues surrounding the criminal justice field that I find interesting. Some of these issues have touched on whether or not law enforcement should monitor cities’ more closely, due to the recent attacks on U.S. soil. The major that I have decided to go with seems to really fit me and I am anxious to start learning more about this field, and I am glad that I am not going to have to be on the front lines. I want to be a forensic accountant because I know it will always interest me throughout life. I am glad that I will not be surrounded by the tension that comes with respecting citizen rights and cops overstepping their boundaries between laws and respecting citizens’ rights.
With the crimes in our society, I believe I have the necessary skills of forensics for the career in criminal justice because I am an active listener, a dedicated worker, and a negotiator. My educational background has provided me with the knowledge I need to better serve our society. In addition, I know that the job prospects needed for my job are countless, I have a great deal of abilities to hold a position that would accommodate your needs. Lastly, the benefits that you offer are highly competitive, and these benefits will definitely be a great motivation to better serve our society in dealing with crimes.
Last Wednesday I attended the Major and Minor fair located in the Library Concourse. There were representatives throughout the whole room for each major and minor. This was a great opportunity for students who are still undecided or undeclared officially with there major. Before I attended Utica College I had my mind set on majoring in psychology until I started to venture out and research other majors that caught my eye. I changed my major right before coming to UC so that my classes wold correspond with Criminal Justice so that I can learn more about it. Even though it is only the first semester I am loving everything that I have learned about what it means to be a Criminal Justice major.
Becoming a Crime Scene Investigator is my goal because I believe that after someone’s murder, the most important thing is to let the family know that there is hope to find the killer with all of the hard work that a CSI will take. This job fits perfect for me because I love science, and becoming a CSI involves lots of science. I also find this job as something that will make me help others in need, I love helping others and that is what this job is about. Crime Scene Investigations, involves justice, and justice is something that should always be there when something cruel is made. This career also involves taking pictures of the crime scene, as a CSI I will make sure I get all of the important details even if they are small, but you might
I am hoping that I can get a minor in this field. To be quite honest, I have seen a lot of Law & Order episodes, and that is where my interest in this came about. I do not know if I want a full career in this field, that is why I plan on getting a minor or double major. But just all the stuff about it is another thing that interests me. Such as dealing with the people who are kind of crazy and also getting to help people. “Criminal justice graduates are ready for careers in law enforcement, court administration, victim services, and corrections, and many use the degree to advance into law school and graduate programs.” By getting this minor or double major, it gives me a chance for more job opportunities. Either way I decide though if I did end up choosing that I wanted a career in it, I would be able to get a job in it. With having a degree in Psychology as well as a minor in Criminal Justice, it could open so many more doors for me. By having both of those it not only gives me the chance at a job in Psychology. But if I decide that I would want to pursue a job in Criminal Justice I will be able to depending on how high up of a job I
As a child, I have always had an obsession for watching action movies with my father. We always had that bond with one another, action movies were typically the only movies we would watch. The longer I would watch the movies the more thoughts came across my head. Since then I always wondered if I should focus my career in Law Enforcement. I would always say “Mom, Dad, I am going to be a Policeman.” The more I continued to watch these movies the more I would convince myself to become a Policeman. At one point in time I realized that the crime scenes would catch my attention way more than Policeman. Then I realized that my obsession was not based on Law Enforcement it was based on Forensic Science. A thought occurred to me, what would it be
Selecting a major has been the most difficult challenge I have faced as a student at UC Merced. While many students select their major based upon statistics and ideals, I base my decision primary on my strong commitment and my passion. Furthermore, while maturing the last two years, I have learned that a major should encompass your love, talents, and desire for success in that subject.
Before I was even able to crawl around the living room in my own house or make more than just a simple baby coo; I was a strong-willed little girl that soon grew up to follow her dreams. My mother has always said that I have one of the strongest personalities she has ever seen; that I am a leader and a risk taker. Since I was six years old I wanted to help people in need and to give them justice. Watching the television shows; Criminal Minds, Hawaii Five-0 and Castle, furthered my love for getting into the details and solving the crime. I have always loved science and learning how science can be brought into solving a crime. The TLC television network show, Forensic Files has opened my eyes to a much greater career field than just looking at
The career path that I have chosen is is very broad, but it’s more than a career choice for me it’s become a passion. Becoming a Forensic Science Pathologist is one of my biggest plans; Forensic Science Pathologist focus on examining bodies of people(s) who have died violently, suddenly, and or unexpectedly. It’s now my job to investigate, analyze, and collect data which will better help me solve the cases. I strive to become a forensic science pathologist to be able to collect and analyze evidence to be able to convict the person(s) responsible for their actions. This career choice is valuable
They are all pretty much in the same occupational area, and would require a degree in criminal justice or something similar. Criminal Justice is what I hope to get a degree in, which I plan to obtain at Arizona State University. I hope to have a career in one of the occupations I mentioned or something similar. This career field is not only interesting to me but also pays well, two of the main components that are most important to me in a career. I am also thankful for my parents having careers in similar lines of work, because it helped me learn what these careers are all about and that’s how I realized this is what I want to do. So those are a few careers that I find
The topic I find such fascinating is Forensic Science and how forensic science has significantly changed over the years. “The area of forensic science has grown considerably over the last 150 years and more so since the mid 1980’s.” (Lyman, 2016) Forensic science has gone from taking basic information, and fingerprints to DNA and blood splatter. During a crime scene investigation evidence is collected, analyzed in a crime laboratory and then if needed are presented to the court. However, today the crime laboratory is becoming mobile and can go to the scene to analyze the evidence. Each crime scene and investigation is unique and distinctive, with the help of forensics it can help solve a case.
