Introduction The two majors I decided to research were Criminal Justice and Secondary Education. The major I went into Oshkosh of declaring was Criminal Justice. I became interested in Criminal Justice after watching Criminal Minds and doing a ride-along with my aunt, who is a police officer in Sheboygan Falls. As far as Secondary Education, I have always loved being around kids. When I was young I played school with my sister. I’ve also loved math, it has always been my best subject. I am more interested in Secondary Education as of now, which is why I interviewed a middle school math teacher, but I am still interested in learning more about Criminal Justice because I still find it extremely interesting.

If I were to go into Criminal Justice, I would like to work my way up to being a detective because it is interesting to figure out how people think. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, police officers protect peoples’ lives and their property while detectives search for facts and collect evidence of crimes that happen in the community. Police officers and detectives work in an environment that may be called demanding, stressful, and dangerous. Police officers actually have the job with the highest rate of injury and illnesses, which is not too surprising. New police officers often work at hours that most people would not like to work. In order to become a police officer or detective, someone may have a high school diploma, college degree, or even higher. Although, most of them have to graudauate from the agency’s training academy before actually working in the field. The criminal justice system, prisons being part of it has made a huge impact on those be convicted for the use or possession of drugs. However, with the help of resources and influence there are ways to get off or have a less of a sentence by money and power. Though if money and power isn’t an option for them art is a way to provide prisoners rehabilitation and healing who have been involved by the criminalization of drugs.
I always found myself perch in front of a television watching Criminal Minds or S.W.A.T. shows trying to profile a serial killer with Dr.Reid or ponder about the best strategy to rescue the hostage(s). Hoping my assumptions were indeed true. Villainous mind's have always intrigued me and helping people will forevermore warm my heart. What I plan on doing with my BA in social science is pursue a career as an NYPD officer and work my way up to become part of an elite S.W.A.T team. As we all know there are many challenges the criminal justice system faces. The system is not perfect. Everyday more and more problems arise. While more problems are arising there are also people out there trying to fix the current issues at hand. Many of the issues have been around for a while and will take years for the solutions to take place. Some challenges that they are facing do not currently have a solution. Desistance from crime exists when an individual has an absence of criminal behavior in their lives for a sustained period of time. Criminal Justice is acknowledged as the study of crime and criminals. Although it 's not everybody’s first choice, before college I had always found this major genuinely appealing. However, in the beginning, it wasn’t something that I preferred to major in. When I started to consider attending college, at first I wasn’t interested in furthering my education. I used to contemplate about being an Au Pair in different countries, at another time I desired to become a baker. I didn’t honestly notice the point of continuing school when I become bored with classes as a result of nothing appealed to me. My name’s Molly. I turned 21 in March, and I still live at home with my mama, aka, my best friend. I’m in the Criminal Justice program, and this is my second semester (in this program) 4th semester total. It’s a long story. Basically I took one semester getting all of the core classes out of the way, and then I did a semester in the Marketing/Graphic Design program. I eventually learned that wasn’t my thing, so now I’m finally studying something I’m very interested in which is Law. Police officers have always intrigued me, so it’s what I intend to do once I graduate. If not, then perhaps a dispatcher, corrections officer, or something related. I decide to go back to school so I further my education in the criminal justice field. I also decide to go school because I will be the first one in my family to go and graduate collage. So as you could see this would make my family very proud. My ultimate goal for this degree is to help me get out of the correctional officer side of the field and become a patrol officer. Many police departments would like for the officers to have at least a two year college degree. So with the help of the Bethel staff and my class mates I will be able to accomplish my goals.
For my graduation project, I chose the career option of being a police officer. Since I was a child I have always wanted to be a police officer when I grow up. My neighbors and I always use to play cops and robbers growing up, and I would always want to be the cop. I would also and still always watch the show “Cops”. I like the show because it is very interesting and I could see myself pursuing that career. That is where it all started.
My grandfather was a police officer when he was younger; he would tell us stories of he and his buddies on motorcycle patrol and the life of a cop. The stories that he told were so interesting, that ever since, I wanted to have a career in law enforcement. After I graduated from high school, I enrolled in the law enforcement program at Spokane Community College where I planned to fulfill my dream of becoming a cop. I started the law enforcement classes at the college and came to the conclusion that law enforcement was not the career for me.

With the popularity of television shows like Criminal Minds and Law & Order: SVU, the job of a police psychologist has become more well known and even popular. As seen on these shows, a police psychologist can be helpful in profiling a criminal, but they also provide many other services to the members of a police department. Although the development of this field has a long history, police psychology as a separate entity is still relatively recent and growing. This intimate relationship between psychology and law enforcement can be traced back to almost a century ago.[1] It first developed out of a need for a variety of psychological services in the law enforcement field, including screening applicants and counseling during grief and stress situations. In the time that it has been around, it has proved to be a valuable resource for the law enforcement profession.
In Intro to Criminal Justice class, I had the opportunity to learn about the Criminal Justice System more thoroughly. I learned that there are three components that make up the Criminal Justice System such as the courts, law enforcement, and corrections. Each component has its own role in making sure the the Criminal Justice System is functioning properly. If one of these components are not efficient the Criminal Justice system will not be as strong as it could be.
It’s the cops’ job to tighten down on criminals. A police officer is dedicated to enhancing public safety and reducing the fear and the incidence of crime. Integrity is the standard for a police officer. They should demonstrate honest ethical behavior in all their interactions. The duties of a police officer focus on protecting people and property, but also they hold an important position of trust in our communities. Students who want to become police officers must meet certain educational requirements before completing a training program. You must have a high school diploma or equivalent education. Having a college degree is not a requirement for getting hired in most departments, but it can help to have. Even a few years of education in a related field can help especially if you plan to later become a detective. You need to try to take courses in law enforecement, criminal justice, or a related discipline. Some departments provide tuition assistance to police officers pursuing a degree. Knowledge of a foreign language is also helpful.
