In all religions, holy texts, transcriptions of historical religious figures teachings, as well as stories passed down through generations can shape how people live their lives. In Islam, there are five basic acts that are followed by every Muslim called the Five Pillars of Islam. The Five Pillars of Islam shape how Muslims live their daily lives, as well as actions they must do before they die.
The first pillar of Islam is Shahadah, which is the Islamic Creed. It must be spoken before a person can become a Muslim. The person who is to become a Muslim must recite the statement, “Ashhadu alla ilaha illa Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammad rasulu Allah,” which translates to, “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger.” This is the basic statement of Islam. The second pillar of Islam is Salat, which means that Muslims must perform ritual prayers in the proper way five times a day. These prayer times are used as a way to take a break from their duties and activities in their daily lives to connect with God. Muslims praise God while standing, bowing and laying flat on the ground, continuing the practices of prophets. The prayer is started by saying “Allahu akbar,” which translates to “God is the most great,” in English. As they are standing, they recite the first seven verses of the first chapter of the Quran in Arabic, which also can be followed by any other passage from the Quran. Before performing a new action and saying words of praise, Muslims raise their hands up and say, “Allahu akbar.” Next, they bow while reciting the prayer,
