As the original First Lady, Martha Washington set an example for those who followed after her. Mrs. Washington was the leading woman of the country, and in being so took responsibility of most social events. Though most political deals and decisions were managed by Mr. Washington, Martha sometimes got involved. Martha's personality usually didn't effect her work, but it did set a precedent for other First Ladies. All of Martha Washington's actions as First Lady effected the way other head women such as Michelle Obama did their duties in the White House.

Martha Washington was an amazing woman. She grew up in a slightly better than average lifestyle. Then she became a wife, mother, and then a widow. Martha also became one of the richest women in Virginia. Then she became George Washington’s wife and went on to become the first first lady. She lived to the age of seventy and managed to outlive her husband and many others. Martha Washington also was a part of the American Revolution and helped her husband throughout the war. She did all this and much more.
Abigail Adams: A Revolutionary American Woman. Abigail Adams married a man destined to be a major leader of the American Revolution and the second President of the United States. Although she married and raised men that became such significant figures during their time, she herself played an important role in the American society. The events that happened in her life, starting from childhood and ending in her adult years, led her to be a revolutionary woman. Three main reasons behind her becoming such a strong, independent woman was the fact that she married a man who had an important role in politics, growing up with no education, and raising a family basically by herself.

Being the first lady, Abigail Adams had a huge role in women’s rights and changing the way women were treated. Abigail Adams immediately began to fulfill her new position of power. One very successful leader, who was also a hero in the popular press, was Eleanor Roosevelt. Eleanor Roosevelt made enduring changes in the role of the First Lady of the United States, and championed change in human rights around the world. The First Lady became a career position, a political platform, a media persona, and a worldwide influence at a time when most women did not pursue careers. Eleanor Roosevelt stood up for women when women did not have any rights. She then stood up for African-American, most notably the Tuskegee Airmen during World War Two, at a time when African-American did not have civil rights (The Tuskegee Airmen, n.d.). Once she left the White House, she emerged as a worldwide leader of human right when she authored the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with the United Nations. Throughout her life, she used her high social standing, her political prowess, and own passion for human rights to breach barriers, influence followers, and create lasting change.
Abigail Adams once said, “If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice, or representation.”
I can relate myself to Martha personally because both of us have similar personalities. A couple of positive traits that we both have in common are generous, big heartedness, and selflessness. For example, as a future art teacher, I like to give back to society in an positive way by volunteering in nearby public schools and helping the students with arts and crafts projects. In addition, I like to teach and pass on my artistic skills such as sculpture, photography, drawing and painting to students.
What does The First Lady of Alabama have to do with women’s right? The late 60’s and 70’s belonged to the woman as a new feminist movement was on the horizon. Although this was a time when oral contraceptives were being introduced and more and more women were joining the work force, women were still not being treated fairly. Congress passed the Equal Pay Act of 1963 which made it okay to pay a woman less money for the same work done by a man. This act is still in play today. Such laws caused women to rally together and fight for their civil rights. There were two different views by women for women. The first group focused on “equal treatment of women in the public sphere” while women liberation groups focused on women being equal on a more personal level. However, the lines of these two views were blurred because it was more important for women to succeed as a whole and not just in a public forum or on a personal level.

Martha?s day was a pretty long one and consisted of many jobs to do, anything from cleaning the house to delivering a baby. The fact that she never lost a mother during any of the childbirths is astonishing in itself since it was the number one cause of death in women. Among those jobs she also spun, raised her children, worked on her farm, and treated illnesses, coming up with her own remedies. For example when Parthenia was sick and she had her drink the last milk from the cow in hopes of her getting better which unfortunately she wasn?t able to make her get better and Parthenia died. Martha?s own children however all lived into their adulthood which was also a very rare thing to add to her list of unique facts.
To be great and kind isn’t always the easiest thing to find, because many of the greatest women in history were great because they had so little of a personal life. Amelia was able to embrace her life to the fullest as well a make an impact on society. She will always be considered great in future generations and will always be remembered in future generations.
Martha Washington was the first, first lady of The United States of America and she disliked many parts of this job. But because of her courage, loyalty, and bravery, she got through life. Not only was Martha the first, first lady but she played other roles including being a mother of four, a spouse, a great cook, a leader, and many others. Today Martha Washington inspires so many women to do and accomplish what they want in life.
There is an African proverb which says, ,[1] “If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a nation” This nation, the United States of America, one nation under God, a nation which has been educated by our daughters, our sisters, our mothers, and our grandmothers. There are several reasons that Americans should be comfortable with the idea of a woman President. Women are as smart, and capable as men. Many women now have had the necessary administrative experience to do the job. A woman president may be less likely to resort to a war than men are. In this thesis, the point I will argue, is that America is ready for a female president. I will have paragraphs in my essay, about the legal qualifications to be a presidential candidate in this country, about a current female candidate who is legally qualified, smart, and capable and has administrative experience. I will mention an opposing view from a 2012 presidential candidate who is female. America is ready for a female president, and if not now…When.
