The feudal society was structured by a hierarchy. They were usually differentiated between four different groups. There was the kings, lords, knights, then lastly peasants and serfs. Once you were born into that class, you generally stayed there your entire life. It did not matter if you worked hard, followed all of the rules, or had great manners, you stayed into the class you were born in. You did not have many choices, pretty much everything was decided for you. We believe that faith can take us to a world that is easier than the one we live in today. Both me, and my wife work in the fields. But my wife is responsible for the household chores. This includes, raising the children, caring for all of the animals, making clothing, tending the garden, baking, preparing meals, preserving food, and to manage our money. My main responsibility is to work on the fields. There are knights on the chessboard, which represent the knights in the feudal society. There are two knights for each side. Knights in a game of chess are more important than pawns, but less important than the kings, queens, and bishops. Which, is true in the Middle Ages. The Knight’s purpose in chess is to protect the higher, more important, pieces in the game. In the Middles Ages, the knights had to protect the the King, the Lords, and the church and manors. The life of a king is actually much different than you might think, for example, here is Derrick’s
The feudal system was one that arose in England after the invasion and conquest of William I. It has been said that this was the perfect political system for this time period. Life was really hard back in the Middle Ages and safety and defense were really hard to come by after the empire fell. There were no laws to protect the poor, so they turned to their lords to keep them safe. The king was in complete control of the system and he owned all the land. One quarter was kept as private property and the rest was given to the church or leased
The evolution of human society consists mainly of ineffective ruling regimes and oppressed peasants. Medieval Europe falls into this same pervasive cycle. Social and political hierarchies intertwine which creates a grossly inefficient system. Hereditary lineage determines nobility. Commoners possess no hope of social mobility. Every aspect of life is virtually preordained. These circumstances revolve around the figure Lanval by Mari de France. Mari de France introduces Lanval as a courteous and distinguished knight of King Arthur’s court. Lanval possesses the most moral nature of all of King Arthur’s knights, yet even so, the other knights of King Arthur’s round table despise him. The many knights neglect acknowledgment of his nature as does
Opposite to the clergy were the lords and nobility who developed their own culture, which was centered on chivalry. According to this ideal, the duty of a knight was to unite Christian virtues with courage and spirit of battle, demonstrated by jousting. The lords attempted to regulate their lands and reduce the influence of the nobility and the Church. Their power, however, was dependent on their subjects in the economic system of feudalism, which defined power relations. A lord would lend a fiefdom to a vassal, which thus created a social relationship in that the vassal owed service and the lord owed protection.
Although scholars dispute its roots, Feudalism was mostly seen in Frankish lands around the 9th and 10th century. ("Feudalism: History of Feudalism in Europe." Infoplease.) The system was first introduced as a means of protection for the king. However, as time grew the opportunity to use it as means of exchange for services between the king and vassal was found. Instead of just forcing people into the king’s army the idea of giving fiefs to those who would pledge their life to service the king was decided on. Likewise, vassal, or the knights saw the advantages they had that could be used to their advantage.
All throughout history and even in modern day countries have been structured by a social class system, however sometimes terrible disasters can set off this social balance. The Black Death was an appalling pandemic that swept through Europe killing thousands of medieval Europeans. Feudalism was a social system based on each level giving and getting products and services to keep the medieval society and it’s people alive. All classes during the Black Plague were affected, noble or serf, this caused a monumental power shift and the social classes never to be the same again. With feudalism’s tight social structure, the Black Death in the late 1300s demolished the population and feudal ties in medieval Europe.
Feudalism is a system of land ownership and duties that were used in the Middle Ages. Under feudalism, all the land in a kingdom was the king's. However, the king would give some of his land to the lords or nobles who fought for him. Rulers in all society wanted to create law and order and ensure that people make good use of the society’s resources. That is why feudalism was created. Monarchs had to accept limits on their own personal power. They also needed to respond to expectations that other groups in society have a say in decision-making. People began to use medieval courts for problems that had previously been solved by trial by combat.
The Medieval times was an age of ignorance, encompassing a long span of years in where people were placed in classes ranging from clergy being the highest to serfs being the lowest, education was only limited to noblemen and was strictly prohibited to women, and poverty was orderly. In the movie, First Knight, many of the problems in Medieval times are portrayed accurately. Empires immense hunger for land, inequitable enforcement of laws, and Religion are some of many issues during the time period represented in the First Knight.
As time progressed the feudal system was created. It was designed to divide the lands and protect from attack. The king first gave a fief or a piece of land to a royal vassal. As proof for this exchange in land a vassal would swear to the lord to be his man all the days of his life and protect him against "all men who may live or die." Next came investiture. Investiture was a symbolic gesture when a King or a lord presented a royal vassal or a vassal a stick, a small rod, or a clod of earth to show that he has given him a fief. Now this royal vassal was in charge of a huge piece of land. In order to defend it he would then divide his land into smaller pieces. He would take these smaller pieces and give them to warriors or who agreed to be his own vassals. Thus, the royal vassal became a lord to other vassals. The vassals now under this lord would now divide their lands and grant fiefs to warriors of their own. Last in the dividing of land was the knight whose parcel of land was too small to be divided.
In the Middle Ages, there was a definite structure in society. You were born into a class of people and generally stayed in that class for your entire life. Working hard did not change your status. Your clothing, food, marriage, homes, and more, were determined for you. After the rank of king, the hierarchy was the nobles. Nobles were very important in the society of the Middle Ages. One of his duties were to Protect the people. When the empire collapsed, there was a king, but there was no formal organization to keep the people safe. The nobles filled this role. The nobles were able to provide protection to all of the peasants and Tradesmen through the of knights. A single Noble was able to command a whole army of knights for what they should do and when they have to do it. Kings were also very important, they had to govern and make sure everything was right with their HUGE amount of land. However, there was no physical way for a king to govern all the land effectively because there was no quick communication system, (because they had only messengers back then) and it often took several days to travel from one part of the country to the other, even in a relatively small countries. The king needed a way to maintain control over his lands, even if indirectly. As a solution, he formed a sort of contract with his nobles, his direct underlings. The nobles were given a large portion of the king's land, known as fiefs or manors. In turn, they had to pay "homage and fealty" to the king. They did this by giving their support to the king at all times, governing the land that was given them, and being ready to provide troops and fight for the king when the need arose. The Nobles Lifestyle was very different from ours. A daily life as a Nob...
Feudalism was not just a system where the top people and can tell what the bottom people to do. Below, you can see a representation of what happens in a feudal system. The king gives lends land to the barons in exchange for knights to protect the king. The barons lend land to the knights in exchange for protection of the barons. The Knights lend land to the peasants in exchange for labour and food. In feudalism, a person could almost never change position from their position. If a person was born as a peasant then they can not change ever. Even if they were really

The paper is based on the Feudal system which was found in the middle Ages in Japan and Europe. They both follow a number of similarities based on their classes, empire, divisions, ruling, politics and economics. However, there were also some differences being found in the form of economic expansion and strategies being used by Japan and Europe. The paper however discusses the issues and problems being found in that era as well.
Although the Middle Ages were a time of sadness and war, sports was a way to bring happiness among the people. Sports in the Middle Ages were also dangerous because some of their games were deadly. Knights would prepare for war by having mock battles. By the 11th century, there were different types of Sports in the Middle Ages like Soccer, Archery, Sword Play, Chess, Tennis, Wrestling, Animal Games and Board Games. (MIP-1) The manor was the physical place where everyone in the feudal society worked and lived. Most manors were large amounts of land, usually from 900 to 2,000 acres (S4). All manors contained a manor house, or large estate of a Feudal Lord, and the land attached (S5). The government of the medieval times was based on a system called feudalism. This was a system of government was based on personal loyalties between lords and vassals. This system is different from modern governments, do to the fact that they are usually strong and centralized. The top person of feudalism was the lord. The lord had authority over everybody including the vassals. The vassals were people who owed loyalty to a lord. In feudalism, the status of knights was considered to be the lowest, however, to be a knight in armor was a great honor. Feudalism continued to gain power through out many countries during the medieval times. It lead to the success of many powerful monarchies. Eventually feudalism died out do to new ideas and stronger centralized governments began to take over.
