Recommended: Impacts of Katrina on New Orleans

The two media sources that I have chosen to give me facts and details about hurricane katrina are Fox News and CNN News. Hurricane katrina was a complete cataclysm hurricane Katrina was named 5th of 15 named hurricanes of 2005 seasons. People had to evacuate on 8/27/2005 because of hurricane katrina about 10,000 people had to go in for shelter for the total of fatalities were 1,833 Alabama had 2, Florida had 14, Georgia had 2, Louisiana had 1,577, and mississippi had 238. This happened in florida, hurricane katrina had happened because a landfall near the border of broward and miami-dade counties with 80 mph ( 130 km h) winds. It happened in august 27 2005, during this horrible time the ones that were suffering were the citizens but the people that came to help were federal emergency management agency ( FEMA). This hurricane totally messed up their environment.

Fox News and CNN News are alike because they both give me facts and details about hurricane Katrina they show me what it was like and how the people felt about the hurricane and the flooding. They are also different because on Fox News it shows a video with people telling their story and how they felt …show more content…

On Fox News it tells me that hurricane katrina was named 5th out of 15 during 2005 season and CNN News tells me how many fatalities there were in each state and what all the numbers came out to be which was 1,833 in total. Actually all of them were reliable but only one of them gave more facts which is CNN News. it impacts our interpretation because any social media or News channels and sites or even radios would talk about it and let everyone know what is happening in our world at the exact time it informs us what’s happening.     Most of the destructions from the events of August 29th 2005, when Katrina Hit the City Of New Orleans, were not only caused by the storm itself; but also, by failure of the engineering of the levee system protecting the entire infrastructure of the city. The years of poor decision making and avoidance of the levee system led to one of the most catastrophic events in the history of the United States. Throughout our research, we have identified three key players in charge of the levee system design, construction and maintenance. These three organizations are the Unites States Corps of Engineers, the New Orleans Levee District and the Louisiana Department of Transportation. The consequences of the hurricane showed the organizations negligence in the design, construction and maintenance of the protective walls. Later independent sresearch showed that more than 50 levees and food walls failed during the passage of the hurricane. This failure caused the flooding of most of New Orleans and all of ST. Bernard Parish. The Unites States Corps of Engineers had been in charge of the of the levee system and flood walls construction since the 1936 flood act. According to the law, the Louisiana Department of Transportation is in charge to inspect the overall design and engineering practices implemented in the construction of the system. Once the levee systems were finished, they were handed over to the New Orleans Levee District for regular maintenance and periodically inspections. The uncoordinated actions of these three agencies resulted in the complete failure of a system that was supposed to protect the people of New Orleans.
