Are you ever so drowsy at school that you can't even focus on your assignments during school. I am. There is an issue going on about sleep. This issue being that only 15% of teens get the recommended amount of sleep. Throughout The United States of America this is becoming a rising concern with today's youth. In my personal opinion I believe that school should start at a later time in the day because it would greatly benefit students. My first reason for later starting times is that it would allow students to get enough sleep , and not have to rush around in the morning to catch the bus. A benefit of this is obviously, a decrease of the intake of illegal substances in teens. Another benefit is teens will generally be more healthy and attentive, and this will be a step in the right direction.
My last reason for school to start later is that there will be less diseases related to sleep deprivation in teens, and an overall boost of happiness. Students would enjoy a later start to the day due to the fact of less stress in mornings, plus that extra sleep won't hurt either. Teens will also be healthier and more active with the amount of sleep they receive each night.
I know there is a good argument against my opinion, being how much the schedules messed up, as well as the bus plan. I feel that is a very valid point. I have an argument against that claim. I say if we make school start an hour later, the bus issue could be fixed by making elementary school start 30 minutes later too. This would make sure that bus schedules would not interfere with each other, and would get home in time to watch their younger siblings. Also, people do not think of the consequences such as conflicts with transportation.
The first reason why school should start later is because teens need sleep. Most teens don’t or can’t go to sleep to get the needed amount of sleep, so they are more rushed in the morning and stressed throughout the day. According to the national sleep foundation, “59% of sixth graders and 87% of high schoolers aren’t getting the recommended 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep per night. If school started later, they could get the sleep they need and they wouldn’t be as stressed or tired.
Starting school later also has a lot of health and academical benefits. Even if the school day starts 30 minutes later, It has proven to show great benefits for teenagers. In the pass Up For Debate: Should School Start Later It says “As a result, students were showing up to school alert and ready to learn and are focused and engaged in lessons.” Some people believe that starting earlier is better because a later start results in a later end to the day. But changing it to a later time will still give kids enough time to sleep and get their work
If the start time of schools is pushed back, then the end time of school would likely be pushed back in order to make up for lost class time. If the end time of school is pushed back, then after school activities would need to be pushed back as well, leaving teenagers getting to their homes later in the evening which would to lead them going to sleep later. This argument undeniably valid, and there is no easy way around it. In order to not lose academic time, a compromise must be implemented. The start times of schools must be pushed back in order to allow teens to live healthy lifestyles, but the end time of schools does not have to be. Instead of pushing the whole day back an hour or two to compensate for losing the first hour or two, just push the start time back. This may seem counterintuitive because it would lead to schools losing class time. To make up for the lost time, schools should extend their year. Schools should add on an extra week or so, depending on how much school time was lost to the later start time, so that no class time would actually be lost. This compromise allows for better mental health of students as well as increased safety on the roads. This is one example of how late start improves students well-being. School starting later will allow students to be happier and more energized, this will also keep students from being disrespectful to teachers and staff. Students that started school later show that they attend their classes and actually go to school for once.

If There is multiple facts and reasons to have later start times help students get through the school day. BY helping students get better grades, test scores, and overall better. And teens these days aren't getting the sleep they need to wake up early and go to school. SO that is why school should have later start times.
School is a very important aspect in young adults’ life, if it is college or high school, succeeding can greatly benefit them in the long run. It is only fair that they get a chance to do their best, and to do their best, sleep is necessary. Making school start times later would allow students and teachers to come to school refreshed and energized and ready to take on the day. Schools starting Earlier in the day make it easier for students to get to school and be able to do after school activities and their coaches not worrying that they aren’t going to beat the sun for daylight. If kids start school later they will improve mentally. Having a later start time causes less stress and less depression. If kids get their 10 hours of sleep it helps them not only not tired but they’re also more happy. At school I personally feel tired, and I start at 8:30 so 8:00 is still pretty early.
Don't you hate waking up early for school in the morning? Most high school students wake up before the sun rises just to become ready for school. Teenage brains do not begin to function that early considering many are tired from staying up late the previous night. The National Sleep Foundation reported that most teens do not retain enough shuteye, one study found that only 15% reported sleeping eight 1/2 hours on school nights. That fact was extremely true for me when I attended high school. I barely was able to wake up, get dressed, and be in school on time since I was so tired. In my opinion school days should start later, precisely in between 9- 10 o'clock. If the school day started later attendance would improve, students will be more prepared, and student's attitudes and grades may improve.
