At some point every parent deals with the request for cell phone, but nowadays kids younger and younger are asking. 21% of kids 8 years and younger have a cellphone. Most teens nowadays spend an average of 6 hours on their phone each day. As there is many pros and cons to the situation I believe that kids younger than middle school should not have cell phones, therefore parents should wait until at least middle school to give their children cell phones. First off having a cellphone is always nice incase of an emergency, promotes independence for kids, and helps you keep in touch with your kids, but if you are 8 years old you are usually never by yourself, and you are usually with a parent. On the other hand cellphones can also be helpful in school. Such as helping kids be more organized and allowing students to contact parents easily. Most parents give their kids cell phones and ipads to entertain them, and to keep them occupied, there are so many apps and games out nowadays that parents use them to keep their kids occupied, but there is plenty of things an 8 year old can do without a cellphone. Most kids now are more attached to their phones, and don't experience anything other than what is on their phone screen. Most kids aren't very good with confrontation because they've been raised with cell phones where you can say something to someone over the phone that you would never say to them in person. One of the biggest issues with having a cellphone at such a young age is the social media websites, and cyberbullying. Most kids register on social medias when they are under the legal age
