Shania Grant Ms.Milliner EES21QH-04 January 20, 2017 Final Paper In the play Othello, written by world renowned poet shakespeare, the characters use grit to pursue their roles. Some of the characters presented in the play either have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. My interpretation of what grit means to have the determination to achieve the goals you set for yourself. When someone is gritty it simply means that don’t lose their ground and they keep going in the same path even if they stumble. Without effort and stamina it’s difficult to accomplish anything worthwhile in your life. Which means it’s even more difficult to become successful. People who have grit will keep trying even if they experience failure because they are longing something badly. Having a fixed mindset basically means once you experience failure you will start to think “ I suck at math” “ I give up” “ no matter how hard I try my grades will never go up because I’m a horrible test taker so I’m going to fail regardless”. People with a fixed mindset think you’re either good at something or not because it’s just who you are. A fixed mindset implies that our abilities are unchangeable. Whereas, A growth mindset implies that we can always get better at our abilities. To have a growth mindset means that you want to get better and you will not stop until you get to where you need to be, Once you have the effort to do something you can be anything you want. A growth mindset is all about the effort you put in. In order for us to get better at our skills one will need grit-the determination to keep going even after experiencing
