Should teachers be paid based on students test scores and performance? Some teachers are paid based on the test scores of their students and how well their students perform. Schools tend to pay their teachers more the better their students are doing, which is not always efficient. Teachers do more than just give tests. Teachers have many things they are responsible for, and tests are just a small fraction. Performance pay will not always attract a strong teacher, because a students scores do not reflect how well a teacher is doing his/her job. As well as teachers teaching how they want to teach, not what is best for the students. This quote relates to teachers and performance pay because it explains that teachers can be a good teacher, but the test scores will not show their best ability. State standardized tests do not show the teachers true teaching ability because some students mentally cannot take tests due to things such as test anxiety. The teachers can be amazing teachers but their students can have low test scores, the students may show significant improvement from where they started at the beginning of the year compared to where they are now, but by looking at their tests you may not see that. Teachers should be against performance pay because they do so much more than just make sure students have good test scores.
