Some high schools require athletes to submit to random chemical testing for illegal drug use. On the other hand, other schools and coaches believe that random drug testing is stating that all athletes are guilty of wrongdoing instead of believing they are innocent. There can be advantages and disadvantages to both sides, although random chemical testing for illegal drug use is the smartest idea. Having random drug tests is used for precautions, influences some to not do drugs if they are considering it, and encourages students to be their best. First off, random drug tests is a precaution and not accusing everyone of doing wrong. Just because drug tests are being taken does not state that coaches believe everyone, or even anyone is doing drugs. Coaches may also think they know all their athletes, but teenagers know how to hide things. Having random drug tests are there just to ensure that no student athlete is using drugs. They are simply trying to help out the students. Many people would probably agree that precautions should be taken instead of taking a chance that no one is doing them. Drug testing also has benefits to the student by encouraging them to become the best person and athlete they can be. Without drug testing, students are allowed to use illegal drugs as they please, which could potentially harm their body significantly.
