What is a drug addiction? A drug addiction is something that is hard to overcome. Sometimes it happens intentionally or sometimes it happens by accident and by accident I mean someone is prescribed a medication by a doctor and they become addicted to it. Intentionally, on the other hand, is when a doctor prescribes a medication and they intentionally abuse it. Prescription drugs aren’t the only things that are addicting, drugs like marijuana and heroin are addicting as well. In a more specific definition drug addiction is a dependence on an illegal drug or a legal medication.
Prescription drug abuse usually start as a casual use which then leads to an addiction. This can have serious, long-term consequences such as problems with physical and mental health. Relationships, employment, and the law are also problems that come with the addiction. Once you have become addicted it is hard to control your drug use and you could continue using the drug despite the harm it causes. Some people may want to quit but it’s not that easy to quit on your own so it is better to seek help.
There is a way that prescription drug abuse cannot exist at all with some people, and that is by prevention. The best way to prevent becoming addicted to an illegal drug is simply by not taking it at all. Prescription drugs, on the other …show more content…

They are: communication, listen, set a good example, and strengthen the bond. You can talk with your children about the risks of drug use and abuse and you can be a good listener when your children talk about peer pressure, and be supportive of their efforts to resist it. You can also not abuse alcohol or addictive drugs on yourself. Most kids whose parents abuse drugs and alcohol are more at risk to do the same. Lastly, you need to work on your relationship with your children by having a strong and stable bond between you and your kids. This will reduce your child’s risk of using or abusing
