Below is a review of Music Therapy at the End of Life by Luna Sun, written by Cheryl Dileo and edited by Joanne V. Loewy in Jeffery Books. This book includes 3 main parts, added prelude and postlude. Noted most of the chapters in the book were presented at the Music Therapy at the End of Life Symposium held at Beth Israel Medical Center in March, 2004, an international event featuring many prominent music therapists and medical professionals specializing in the end of life care. Started with prelude, it gives an overview of the end of life experience in a profession view. Every chapter starts with a quote from the patients’ family members or professions in hospice care about how music therapy is effecting the patients lives, then the introduction of the method and how it applies for music therapy in this specific area, after that the procedures what music therapists need to provide, the process of the method, examples, theoretical rationale for the method, and conclusion are stated. Comparing with the first main part, the second one states the session features and more specific music therapy structures, which makes music therapy more dependable, also it gives young professions a realistic view about how real music therapy looks like in hospice care besides entertaining. Professional issues is the last part of the main text in the book. Its also a really useful handbook for young professions, cause it includes many trustworthy approaches, advancing methods, specific examples, effective suggestions, improvisation ideas, assessment methods, and so on. For explaining how well music therapy works for the specific population and what improvements music therapists can do to be more benefits for the patients, this book achieved its goal. Comparing with the Hospice And Palliative Care Music Therapy: A Guide To Program Development And Clinic Care, this book is more advanced and presents more advanced methods for hospice patients. Being a hospice volunteer for over a year, all I did is using my personal clinical skills to entertain a group of patients in a hospice setting, this books gave me a new view of observation and how music works with the patients. It also gives many ideas and examples about how to do presentations and educations for music therapy in hospice settings and family members which is really important for a young profession, cause palliative care is definitely a team work with all the co-works and it is very essential to let the works know how they can support music therapy so it benefits the patients
