Leadership Core Competencies
A personal core competency can be defined as an asset which cannot be easily replicated. A leader should definitely possess some core competencies so that he/she stands out from the rest of the crowd. Individual core competencies are similar to organizations competencies in the sense that “Core competencies provide a potential source of continuing competitive advantage if they are used to provide innovative, high-quality products and services that cannot easily be copied or duplicated by competitors” (Yukl, G, 2012).
The core competencies of an individual help him to decide his career path. Recognizing the strong competencies n d working to improve on the ones which are a drawback would help greatly for an individual’s development. Current organizational structure is a matrix of cross linked reporting hierarchies. Globalization has made an organization a composite of people from different geographies and backgrounds. Working in such a diverse environment requires excellent communication and leadership style.
Core Competencies
Team environment demands lot of skills to function smoothly. Working in teams over the years has given me skills to deal with people. Some of my core competencies are as listed below.
Dealing with people
Dealing with people effectively is a skill which is a must for success. The way we interact with our co-workers and superiors affects our relationship with the individual as well as the overall office dynamics. Respecting and trusting your colleagues is very important factor in developing effective work relationships.

Being in a technical role I most often assume my roles and responsibilities. It is very important for an individual to understand where they stand and what they contribute to the organization. Leaders must work hard to explain their initiatives and create conditions for people to succeed when they implement them. But equally so, followers need to work to fulfill their responsibilities to the organization that pays them (Baldoni .J, 2009).
Seek performance feedback/ Prepare personal development plan
Performance feedback is a critical way in which an employer and employee communicate the expectations to each other. This helps in developing a personal development plan to move in the right direction in the career.
