A. Critical Challenge The critical challenge within in today’s society is that college tuition should be free or if not free, more affordable for all students. Certainly, higher education should not be considered a luxury where only the wealthy could afford, but an opportunity for all caste systems. It must be an accessible and affordable opportunity for all students in order for them to invest in their education. Higher education is important because it provides more careers to choose from than the careers offered without having a college degree. Ultimately, the issue here is whether it is right to make college tuition more affordable for the students. B. Possible Outcomes One point of view is the strengthening of community colleges. Tuition and fees has extremely risen over the past years which makes it extremely difficult for both social economic groups to invest in a higher education for their families. Today’s college students borrow and accumulate more debt than previous years (The White House). For instance, “In 2010, graduates that borrowed money graduated with owing an average of more than $26,000”(The White House). As a result, President Obama has expanded federal support to help more families and students to afford higher education (The White House). Also, he believes that it is a shared responsibility of the federal government, states, colleges, and universities for making higher education …show more content…
In the sense of utilitarianism this outcome would be in consideration of the greater good for the entire population. Also, by having more affordable education it would not only benefit the parents who continue to support their children, but would give those who are less fortunate an opportunity to learn and grow as an intellectual. Furthermore, it provides a higher percentage of the population a chance to obtain a higher form of education which would expand the spectrum of professions that are current. For instance, as of now only 65.9% of graduating high school students are enrolled into college the following school
College is one of the most fundamental institutions in our modern world. It is a place where most of our future politicians, doctors, scientists, and leaders are made. Though, it seems that the price tag that comes with a college education is something that is too hefty for some students. Countless debates go on about whether the price of college should be abolished or whether the cost still is on the students to pay for.
Fighting the cost of college tuition is a hot topic these days. As long as I can remember, tuition has always been a reason why most people don 't pursue their bachelor’s or even associate degree. Today 's society has changed students are fighting for grants, financial aid, and even loans to pay through school. In order to be financially comfortable in the 15th century a college education is a must. It is an everyday battle getting financial support from a college’s administration. Colleges need to be more affordable, obtaining funds less stressful, and colleges must enact policies that condone these principles.
As college tuition prices continue to rise, it puts stress on all families worldwide who trying to put their children through school. Every parent wants their son or daughter to have the privilege of receiving a college education. However, the price of college makes this seem unobtainable for some families. Many families face the struggle that they not only have to put one child through school, but they may have to put two or three children through college. Therefore, this family will be spending outrageous amounts of money on college tuition each year. One college bill is expensive enough, never mind the thought of adding two or three college bills, at unreasonable prices to the list. For example, my parents will eventually have to put four children through college. My parents work exceptionally hard so that I will have the privilege of receiving a higher education. Middle class families receive very little financial compensation when it comes to college due to what their credentials look like on paper. With the cost of college rising and the lack of financial aid that middle class families receive, college continues to get more expensive and more difficult to afford. This is simply
It can be helpful to know about the different terms for taking out loans and financing them. For instance, while reading one of the nitrocollege's articles about reasons to choose federal loans, I came across the word “consolidate.” I knew its definition from an academic perspective; but in the context of finance, I had no idea what the word meant. I ended up reading many articles and compiling their information to a simple, satisfactory definition. Repeating the same process for numerous financial terms that are used when talking about paying for college would be painstaking. A list of financial terms that students should know for college would be a helpful reference for when they are reading up about financing for college.
As we grow up, we face change; change that we may like or we may not. Life becomes harder and harder. Our dreams become harder to reach. Dreams come in many different shapes, forms and want. For some people, their dream may be to become an artist. But for many is as simple as to attend to college. But for many of us seems impossible. The opportunity for many students to attend to college depends on their social economic social status. College should be more affordable because it would give all students the opportunity to attend college, would motivate high school students to get their diploma, and it would decrease the division of the lower class from the higher class.
Recently, education has become a significant principle in today’s community. Children, young people, and old people need a variety of education that can help them in their life. People live in a modern world, with a new culture, new information, and new technology. Everyone struggles to build a learning environment that helps him/her face the world by strong knowledge and skills. Everyone has talents and abilities that could help support the world completely. The government ought to support and encourage these talents and abilities. Otherwise, these talents and abilities will fade. Students who graduate from high schools desire to maintain their studies. However, there is a barrier that could stop them; it is college tuition. There are more and more colleges and universities which are not free, specifically colleges that have a strong reputation. Despite the governments giving scholarships for the students who graduate from high schools by good grades, college tuition
As Bernie Sanders had once said, “We need to make certain…that every American gets all the education needed regardless of family income.” What Bernie is trying to provide is that although some families can’t afford tuition they should not be disregarded from the opportunity. And that if costs were affordable the U.S could possibly be the best educated work force in the entire world. The main issue with the cost of tuition is that not everyone can afford it. If not everyone can afford it our society could possibly lose an individual that may know something our society doesn’t. Thus, making it hard for someone to get an education solely based on their social status in society, the amount of yearly income they make, and because they can’t receive the degree they need to get a job. Governments should implement price control on the price of college which would result in more people getting the option to go to college.
Opportunity is one of those intangible things that we are constantly reminded to pursue. Perhaps it can be viewed as an actual object or a path to follow. The fact is that no one truly knows what it can be, but we can all agree that an education has led many to a successful life filled with opportunities. However a high valued education comes at a price and it’s usually a high one, but most people are willing to pay this price no matter the cost. Higher education or college, is infamously known for having these high prices, and having such prices have numerous negative effects such as driving students into dangerous profession, driving valuable students away, and negatively affecting stability of finances
The issue of whether or not tuition in public colleges should be free in the United States has been the question to many politicians, students, parents, and people recently. Free tuition seems like a positive thing to most people, but what those individuals have not looked beyond the word “free”. Advocates such as Bernie Sanders have argued why tuition should be free, and have made plans for this change. Free colleges tuition to many people is very appealing, but the big picture of free colleges can have big effects on the economy, and public colleges across the United States. Concern about the cost of tuition for college students leads many of us to oppose that to attend college you should have to pay a tuition. We worry that if tuition
Imagine if your $10,000 to $40,000 and above payment every year for college is now gone. College is becoming a stable education for jobs. Yet college tuition is rising in price while more and more students are going. The average student does not have the money to pay for college without student loans. If college tuition became free then there would be fewer amounts of student loans on students back. College tuition should be free because tuition is only half the price of college, labor jobs are are declining, and because of that a bachelor’s degree is the new high school degree.
In other words, they could go to college for better education. The cost of higher education is substantially growing in the recent years, which include both state universities and private universities. Due to a rapid increase in tuition fees, some young students drop out of college because they are not able to find a job to pay off their loans after graduation. However, it is difficult to accept those high tuition fees for low-income families. Most of low-income families have more than two children, which cause a financial burden for the families. In the article “Higher Education’s Coming Crisis” Robert Zaller states that “President Obama has fired a shot across the bows of higher education in warning that if college costs continue to go up, government subvention will go down.” which means if college do not cut tuition fees, more students cannot go to college. Even if some students who graduate from high school would prefer to make money early rather than achieve a college degree. The loan to students could effectively be solved the tuition fee issue, which could contribute to completing their college education first and then paying the cost after
“Many students are faced with the realization that paying for college has become worth more than some people's yearly salaries”. (ELearners) I have met many people who state that the reason they didn’t go to college was due their inability to pay the tuition. A college degree can be the obstacle that makes or breaks a person’s livelihood, if two people are applying for the same job and one has a degree and the other doesn’t, then the person with the degree gets the job without a doubt. In the United States, as citizens we are guaranteed the right to the Pursuit of Happiness but why should we have to go bankrupt in the process? Therefore I believe that college tuition should be free to all citizens.
What would happen the college education and tuition are free for all charges in United States? Many U.S citizen won’t deal and pay for the expensive tuition. Fees and loans are too large of a load for young people to carry. A lot of students drop out due to the pressure of having to worry about all the loans they have to pay back after college student are done with college. For example, in College Board website that shows college comparison like University of Redlands which cost $48,072 for in and out of state tuition and fees. Making college tuition higher would result students didn’t graduate. This would also serve to improve college's graduation rates, as fewer students would feel to drop part-time status or take a break from education for
Tuition fees is a plan that helps students pay once they start to study at a university or college. Tuition fee includes a membership of student union. Students will do better with tuition fees therefore they won't be haunted with all the loans for their rest of their lives. Tuition fee makes students life easier throughout there 2-4 years of college. Clinton had “decided to make tuition fee for families earning less than $125,000 a year”(Gaudiano). Families that are in the need, tuition is going to reflect a lot in there lives.Tuition fee will lead to increase college going rate and decrease student debt.
One reason why increasing tuition fee in universities and colleges is not favorable is everyone believes education is really important for everyone. However, high tuition fee makes the education become a big equity problem. There is an ancient saying in my home country China that goes, “It probably takes about ten years for a tree to grow up, but it takes maybe one hundred years to educate a generation of people.” It emphasizes not only the difficulty but also the great significance of education. With the economic globalization gaining momentum, it goes without saying that the competition in the job market will only become more and more fierce. And in today’s world, without a proper education, it is very har...
