A lot of minorities within the United States do not receive the education they need for a better life due to lack of opportunities. Affirmative action stands to solve this problem. Affirmative action should be supported because it supports less-advantaged students, helps increase graduation rates and applications for colleges, and is necessary to compensate for centuries of racial, social, and economic oppression. There are many supporters of affirmative action who wish to support less-advantaged students and the minority. There are businesses and companies. Martin Luther King Jr. was a supporter of affirmative action, and he dreamed of equal opportunities and equal rights for all people. Five hundred companies came out in support for Affirmative action stating that the students of today are this country’s future and by exposing them to a diverse community which will help understanding of different culture and thinking and will in the future help with America’s increasing diverse population. Statistics show that after California abolished its affirmative action programs in 1998, the minority students admission for at UC Berkeley fell 61 percent.
