My ambition to study medicine began with my experience in shadowing an endocrinologist at a private medical clinic during summers between 2011 and 2015. Visiting and talking to patients with diabetes or Graves’ disease left me with admiration and respect for the sensitivity that the doctors showed. These made me see that there was nothing I wanted more than to taking responsibility of the caring for and treatment of patients. These brought me the high ability of empathy for others because there were many chances to observe, feel and experience the hard times they felt. I developed my teamwork and leadership skills thanks to school Social Service Club. As a vice president, I organized campus events and activities for interacting with children in an orphanage. In a New Year party for homeless children planned by me, we as club members celebrated the New Year with them. I sold homemade cupcakes and pizza slices at school to raise money for the aid of various low-income schools in different cities of Turkey. I tried and worked hard to help create value for the team. Also, I managed to get through a very busy academic schedule with these activities due to my multi-tasking and hardworking character. I realized that I like working in a team as well as individually. As I could both succeed at school and achieve great things in social activities, I will be able to handle the rigorous hours of medicine. I participated in Job Security & Health Summer Course by Ipragaz Energy Company, a leader company for the energy sector in Turkey, at its filling facilities in Hadımkoy and Yarımca. As the only student from school selected for attending the course, I was trained for and awarded with a certificate on Job Safety and Health at Ipragaz Energy Company’s Yarımca plant. The high number of deaths and injuries aroused from work-related accidents in Turkey was striking. During the course, I realized the crucial importance of the security of employees and their protection from dangerous substances. I gained insight into unhealthy environments’ effects on health and the importance of protection by the drill that took place in the plant and workplace. Furthermore, I attended a meeting on nanotechnology and tissue engineering in Istanbul Kultur University where presenters gave their clinical perspectives on tissue repair in current and prospective challengings. New trends in nanotechnology and medicine impressed me and I decided to take nanoscience and technology classes this year in my school to get more familiar with nanomedicine.
