Plastic Pollutions Effect on Ocean life “Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic gets into the ocean, and scientists estimate that there may be as much as 110 million tons of plastic trash in the ocean” (Schlossberg, A9). When people go to the store, they’d buy things that include plastics, such as water bottles, straws, items with plastic bags, and even toys; and along with that, when they’d check-out they’d get their items put into plastic bags. All of these plastics have a chance of getting into the ocean, even if you were to throw it away. They have the chance of being blown away, and eventually land in the ocean. Multiple organisms in the ocean have died due to plastic pollution all around the world. Plastics need to be more controlled and less distributed, since …show more content…

Eating at restaurants, movie theatres, schools, and even theme parks people use straws. Some of those straws would not be thrown away, as they either get blown away in the wind or they are littered onto the ground; either way, they still find their way into the oceans. Straws can impact the organisms in the ocean because they could become stuck inside the noses of sea turtles, they are eaten by marine animals, and they are scattered around the oceans along with other plastics (Fears). These straws are often mistaken for food, since animals do not know any better, and they are harmful and could kill many of them. Plastic straws are very convenient for us as we use them, but consequently, they are a danger for other living organisms. Plastic pollution impacts the organisms living in the ocean every day, and we keep using it. Plastics are polluting our oceans and, consequently, multiple coral reefs are dying along with many turtles and marine animals. If we were to produce less plastics, and control how much is is being used, then these organisms in the oceans would not be getting diseases and
