Edgar Allan Poe's, The Cask of Amontillado as a Description of Poe's Life
The cast of Amontillado was written by Allan Poe at a time when he felt he was being unjustly attacked. Most critics believe that the cask of Amontillado was written by Poe against his critics in the Mirror. I believe the cask of Amontillado is a story of Revenge and Hatred against some friends whom be believed had wrongfully accused him. A review of Allan Poe as a person and his experiences in life is essential a clear understanding of "The Cask of Amontillado". Hence, I will apply a cultural method of interpretation.
Poe was raised by his God parents after his parents died at the age of three. He was involved in Gambling and he also drank a lot. According to the Columbia Encyclopedia,
"Poe was a complex person, tormented and alcoholic yet also considerate and humorous, a good friend, and an affectionate husband. Indeed, his painful life, his neurotic attraction to intense beauty, violent horror, and death, and his sense of the world of dreams contributed to his greatness as a writer"(2). This was true of Poe's literature. The Cast of Amontillado is full of suspense, shows different Kinds of wine and the complexity of Poe's personality can be shown in the Characters .Some critics have said that the cask of Amontillado can be read as an allegory of two portraits of Poe. I think The Cask of Amontillado is a Portrait of Poe and that of his critics. It is a story that is full of symbols.
The Cask of Amontillado is the story of man who is desperate to obtain revenge from an insult. The nature of the insult was never revealed in the story. All we know is that Montressor methodically planned his revenge against Fortunato. As Allan Poe put it, "It mus...

...portrayed by Fotunato and Luchesi. Considering the close resemblance between the story and the issues in his life at that time, I believe Allan Poe was writing about himself. He finally got his revenge when he filed a libel suit against English and Fuller. He won the libel suit but he also lost his reputation in the process. In The Cask of Amontillado, Montressor walled Fortunato in. However, Fortunato rested in peace while Montressor will go on with a troubled conscience.

The mood established by Edgar Allan Poe in his short story, "The Cask of Amontillado," plays a crucial role in conveying to the reader his underlying theme. For example, when Montresor, the narrator, st...
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most celebrated literary authors of all time, known for writing very suspenseful, dramatic short stories and a poet; is considered as being a part of the American Romantic Movement, and a lesser known opinion is he is regarded as the inventor of the detective-fiction genre. Most recognized for his mystery and macabre, a journey into the dark, ghastly stories of death, deception and revenge is what makes up his reputation. The short story under analysis is a part of his latter works; “The Cask of Amontillado”, a story of revenge takes readers into the mind of the murderer.
One of the most famous authors in American history is Edgar Allen Poe, thanks to his intricate and unsettling short stories and poems. One of the strongest aspects of Poe’s writing style is the allure and complexity of the narrator of the story. These narrators, ranging from innocent bystanders to psychotic murderers, add depth to such a short story and really allow Poe to explore the themes of death and murder which he seems to have an unhealthy obsession towards. Furthermore, he uses these narrators to give a different perspective in each of his many works and to really unsettle the reader by what is occurring throughout the story. The narrators, whether an innocent witness of death as in "The Fall of the House of Usher" or a twisted murderer as in "The Cask of Amontillado" are used by Poe to discuss the themes of death and murder within these stories and, depending on their point of view, give a different take on such a despicable act such as murder.
“The Cask of Amontillado” is a dark piece, much like other works of Edgar Allan Poe, and features the classic unreliable narrator, identified by himself only as Montresor. This sinister central character is a cold ruthless killer that is particularly fearsome because he views murder as a necessity and kills without remorse. Montresor is a character who personifies wickedness. Poe uses this character and his morally wrong thoughts and actions to help the reader identify with aspects of the extreme personage, allowing them to examine the less savory aspects of their own. The character of Montresor detailing the glorious murder he committed is a means of communicating to the reader that vengeance and pride are moral motivators that lead to treacherous deeds and dark thoughts.

Poe’s first-person narration style in “The Cask of Amontillado” allows the reader to experience a different type of story, from an unusual perspective. By making a killer the narrator, and by making him familiar with the audience, we can see the situation in different darker light. Rather than focusing on the actual physicality and action that takes place in the story, Poe focuses on the thoughts and emotions of the main character, thus making for a more intimately disturbing story for the
James Knox Polk was born November 2, 1795 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. James was the son of a surveyor and farmer Samuel Polk and mother Jane Polk who came from the family of Scottish religious reformer John Knox. He was the oldest of four sisters and five brothers, many who died young. By the age of 10 he and his family moved to Duck River, Tennessee what is now known as Maury County. James was not a healthy youth and was diagnosed with gallstones, but had done a risky operation to get them removed. During his childhood years he only got an informal education. By age 18 he began his formal education. After attending formal schooling for two and half years Polk was permitted to go to University of North Carolina as a sophomore (Design). He had an interest in law and government by having a membership in a debating society. Graduating top honors in his class Polk returned to Tennessee to become a lawyer. To receive legal training “Polk served as a clerk for the Tennessee Senate working for attorney Felix Grundy” (Design). By the age of twenty-seven his political life began. He s...
Poe’s fantastic use of imagery holds an idea to the questioning of his character's motives. In “The Cask of Amontillado”, Montresor's face was covered by a black mask, he not only represents blind righteousness but also revenge. In contrast to Montresor's apparel, Fortunato wears a colorful jester costume, and gets precisely and dreadfully fooled by Montresor’s underco...
Unpasteurized milk or dairy product is also a factor to a body's health because unpasteurized dairy can be vehicles for the spread of pathogenic microorganisms (Cancer Prevention Coalition). Also IGF-1 is not destroyed in the pasteurization process; the pasteurization process actually increases IGF-1levels in milk. IGF-1can also be absorbed into the bloodstream and effect other hormones (Cancer Prevention Coalition). Pasteurization also cuts in half the value of calcium milk could potentially have. The nutritional quality of milk and cheese is altered in the pasteurization process and fat is increa...
Edgar Allan Poe is a wonderful writer. He is most widely known for his hair-raising stories. His writing style is unique in that he uses subtle details to add suspense to his stories. He also uses dark details to help his audience figure out lingering questions they might have upon finishing his stories. One perfect example of his famous style of writing is, “The Cask of Amontillado”. Throughout the story there are four important details that help the reader realize that the murder of Fortunato was not perfect revenge.
In "Cask of Amontillado", Montresor is the narrator. "The thousand of injuries of Fortunato he has borne as he best could; but when he ventures upon insult, Montresor vows revenge" (Poe 528). As the story unfolds, "Montresor's idea of perfect revenge" is "characteristically precise and logical in detail" as to how he commits his crime (Delaney 1).

being taught that milk is healthy and the way to go when giving their kids a drink, people cannot really go wrong with milk can they? Well many may be surprised that a lot of prominent doctors are saying that the consumption of milk is now a huge factor in many diseases in children and adults with health risks ranging from acne and diarrhea to heart disease and even cancer. With all these drawbacks, people still simply keep drinking milk and with that all, false advertising and people not being educated right is certainly to blame.
Though Poe’s fame did not come in his life time he has truly been an inspiration and his writing style a model for writers today (work – cited poe museum). Analyzing Poe’s work takes time to understand what is happening and why the characters has the motivations for the task they did, this becomes very apparent in Poe’s “most perfect short story”, “The Cask of Amontillado” (work cited – cliff notes).
In todays time, health and proper nutrition has become one of the most up and coming topics that people want to learn more about. Not until recently did people start to experiment with these new trends including veganism, plant based, and dairy free diets. It has taken over the television and internet, the most powerful celebrities are influencing so much of the younger generation, convincing them that these new diets are so much more beneficial than they think. However, I believe that becoming dairy free is something that can be easily transitioned into because there are so many alternatives to cow milk today. Many people will still argue that cow milk is indeed healthy and there are no risks while drinking it, but there seems to be much more evidence backing up why we should not be consuming
