Sport Radio Assignment The sports show that I chose to listen to is ESPN FC. This is a branch of ESPN that covers soccer news and stories from around the world. This show airs on ESPN at 6 pm and runs for 30 minutes. The show consists of soccer analysts and former players who discuss and dispute some of the hot topics from the soccer world. The target audience is the American public who are interested in soccer. Since soccer is not the most popular sport in the United States, ESPN FC provides an outlet for these American soccer fans to get their news from. It is a separate style of programming from the regular ESPN shows such as “Around The Horn” or “Sportscenter” due to the fact that they rarely cover soccer.

There are several analysts who all have their own opinions and biases, however, when they discuss the topics at hand, their conflicting opinions show both sides of the discussion to the audience. For example, they discussed the recent incident of Real Madrid firing their manager. One of the analysts believed that this decision was sound and had good reasoning behind it because the team was not performing well. However, another analyst on the show believed that the manager who was fired was not given enough time to create any change in the team’s performance and prove himself. Although both analysts had their own opinions and biases, both sides of the argument were revealed so the viewer is best
The collection of networks and affiliates filling the Boston radio market, has consistently changed over time, due to different factors in the entertainment industry. WEEI has been one of the few radio stations, that has found consistent success, despite facing numerous changes. While most stations have opted to settle down in either FM or AM radio, WEEI is continuing to make an impact on both ends. Both frequencies offer different programing, so listeners can tune into local hosts, or nationally syndicated shows from other sports networks like ESPN. When examining other radio stations, a majority of them lack the history and progression WEEI has endured, while transforming into what it is today.
Over all the ESPN workers in the world there about 7,000 working employees for ESPN. The workers live mostly in Connecticut or L.A. because those are where the two main stations are at. They announce sport games, keep us updated, also go to the games and interview players or coaches, and give their opinions on teams and players. The jobs that are kinda related to a ESPN job are being a manager of a team, a player, a coach, or the owner. Another job that’s related to this is a newspaper writer.
There are a lot of sports broadcasters in the world and almost all of them have their own way of doing their job well. Now there are a lot of things that sports broadcasters do to make themselves good but the key points to being a sports broadcaster are to do the correct research, to present themselves in a professional manner and to put in the extra effort to be that much better.
Sports are a huge part of American culture. With football, basketball, and baseball being the most popular, the sports industry is worth an estimated 422 billion dollars. Of course, there would be no sports industry without the fans. The fanatics are what make sports so special. Even though each devotee is unique, most can be categorized into four main groups – Bandwagon fans, Casual fans, Hometown/True fans, and Coaches.
Sports is a huge factor in the American culture. Not only is it a way of entertainment for people but it is a social institution. From television commercials to billboards to people priding themselves in sports gear. Sports is a way for people to express their culture and represent their racial backgrounds. Sports has been an avenue for people to freely be themselves in their own skin color.
Media is known for taking an issue and exaggerating the truth and putting out the bias of their own political ideology. In sports media the same could be said about how the sports analyst have their bias about teams, players and coaches. This bias directly hurts the image and reputation of people who may not want the attention or made a mistake that was blown out of proportion. Also sports media tend to cover many rumors that may not always be true, but even if the rumor isn’t true at the end, it tends to affect the viewer’s perspective anyway. Sports media outlets such as ESPN and recently Fox Sports 1 hurt or enhance the images of players, coaches, owners, and teams by covering and reporting rumors that are sometimes untrue and they also broadcast sportscasters' biased opinions ultimately causing the public to change their opinions of sports figures.
Throughout history, sport has played an important part in many cultures and civilizations. Historically, sport was used in the industrial revolution to make workers feel that the everyday activities were normal. Sport gave workers a sense of stability and structure that
ESPN is using a popular sports website used by thousands of people every day for entertainment. I believe ESPN is a credible source, because they back up their reports with facts. It can be accessed through internet, television, radio, or on mobile devices. A good sign that it is credible is there are not very many ads. The more ads on websites the more likely it is not a credible website.
Most people watch some form of sports, whether it be the Olympics or the highlights on ESPN. The NBA and NHL playoffs are underway and it seems to be the only news on ESPN. There is almost no coverage of the WNBA playoffs or any female athletics. Tennis is one of the only big sports on ESPN for women. While during the Olympics, the coverage seems to be non-stop and close to equal.

ESPN also likes to give the viewer a little bit of knowledge about the players of a particular game. Most of these interviews or stories are extremely short and really, a viewer gains no real amount of knowledge. The viewer must sit back and hear what the producers of the show want them to hear. There is no choice of whether the viewer watches highlights of baseball or gets the story about Sarah Hughes and how she injured her leg muscle. The website www.msn.espn.go.com gives viewers another look at a lot of the same stories as the television show, but it offers something more.... ...
Every individual's unique and distinctive interests, goals, experiences, values, education, and skills often prove to be the driving force behind what they want to do and succeed at in life. For some people, such as famous sports figures Adam Schefter, Stephen A. Smith, Michael Wilbon, and Tony Kornheiser, these factors influence them to find watching college or professional sports, studying the lifestyle of determined athletes, conducting interviews, analyzing statistics, and playing sports themselves enjoyable, which are all aspects of the sports journalism career field. Sports journalism is an exciting and elating career field that falls under the broad umbrella of journalism careers, in which journalists collect, write, and distribute news and updates about amateur and professional sporting events.

The Importance of Sports to Mass Communication Understanding mass communication without attention to sport coverage is practically impossible. Through the mass media, millions and even billions of viewers, listeners and readers are brought into the experience of a great sports performance. The emotional power of sports performance, enchanted by slow-motion video and musical sound track, can take you to breath away or bring tears to your eyes. There are a lot of massive spectacles like the Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA play-offs, the Olympic Games, and the College Football Games. Each of these sports activities takes in many millions of dollars from television revenues and dominates national sports news for days or weeks.
