Task 1 – Research Question
Students have the option to choose between public or private schools, but the tuition fees are an obstacle for many students to become part of private colleges. The main objective and the research question in this case is ‘Does public or does private schools prepare students better for college?’
Task 2 – Literature Review
The differences of public and private schools are a topic that has been used many times within the years. Not every student affords to study in a private school due to expensive tuition fees, and thus it always remains a ‘what if issue’, regarding further better possibilities of advancement. In the other side, there are existent perceptions about the quality provided in private schools in comparison with public ones. But, does there really exists a difference in quality provided, and is the public / private school that determines the performance and success in colleges?
According to a Center on Education Policy research named ‘Are Private High Schools better academically then the public High Schools’ (2007), the overall findings state that students that attend private schools gain neither immediate academic advantages nor long-term advantages. Nevertheless, these students don’t even gain job satisfaction.
Furthermore, an article written by Walt Gardner (2013), accordingly to a longitudinal study of University of Illinois, professors show that public schools are doing a much better academic work than private schools. These results were surprising for those people who trust in credibility of private schools. In the contrary of these results the results of an article that was published in The Australian Economic Review, ‘Public v private school?’ by Jacobs (2011) are presented. ...

After analyzing the data of standardized questionnaires that have been used and comparing the results, this research failed to reject the null hypothesis, hence the students that attend a private high school do have a high GPA (8.00 or greater). So, the answer to our research question ‘Does public or does private schools prepare students better for college?’ is: Private high schools prepare the students better for college.
These results are related to an increased studying motivation, increased self-confidence and critical reasoning due to the high school’s experience. Nevertheless, the research limitations have to be considered, such as small sample size and the participants chosen only by RIINVEST College in addition of generalizing the conclusions. That’s why more in-depth studies have to be conducted.
