Task 1 – Research Question
Students have the option to choose between public or private schools, but the tuition fees are an obstacle for many students to become part of private colleges. The main objective and the research question in this case is ‘Does public or does private schools prepare students better for college?’
Task 2 – Literature Review
The differences of public and private schools are a topic that has been used many times within the years. Not every student affords to study in a private school due to expensive tuition fees, and thus it always remains a ‘what if issue’, regarding further better possibilities of advancement. In the other side, there are existent perceptions about the quality provided in private schools in comparison with public ones. But, does there really exists a difference in quality provided, and is the public / private school that determines the performance and success in colleges?
According to a Center on Education Policy research named ‘Are Private High Schools better academically then the public High Schools’ (2007), the overall findings state that students that attend private schools gain neither immediate academic advantages nor long-term advantages. Nevertheless, these students don’t even gain job satisfaction.
Furthermore, an article written by Walt Gardner (2013), accordingly to a longitudinal study of University of Illinois, professors show that public schools are doing a much better academic work than private schools. These results were surprising for those people who trust in credibility of private schools. After analyzing the data of standardized questionnaires that have been used and comparing the results, this research failed to reject the null hypothesis, hence the students that attend a private high school do have a high GPA (8.00 or greater). So, the answer to our research question ‘Does public or does private schools prepare students better for college?’ is: Private high schools prepare the students better for college.
These results are related to an increased studying motivation, increased self-confidence and critical reasoning due to the high school’s experience. Nevertheless, the research limitations have to be considered, such as small sample size and the participants chosen only by RIINVEST College in addition of generalizing the conclusions. That’s why more in-depth studies have to be conducted.
My educational development has primarily been in the private school system. My younger sister attended public schools as well as my son so I have some experience with them as well. I am going to summarize three scholarly essays I have read and compare them to my own academic history.
Academic excellence is the primary desire of every parent and student. However, there are varying perceptions of the role of education in the life of and individual. According to the survey carried out on the perception of the role of education in the life of an individual, it was established that eight out of ten students were of the view that they pursued education for the purpose of economic gains. The American public education system was founded on the radical notion that all members of society should have equal access to education. Also crucial was the notion that a basic common education was essential for a true democracy. This revolutionary system is now in indisputable trouble. Many worry about America’s ability to compete with foreign countries while others address the growing dichotomy between the quality of education in different economic areas. Recent rural shootings have only exasperated the problem, and caused many parents to entirely abandon the public system for a private alternative.
As the high school chapter is coming to a close, many students have to make a decision that will affect the rest of their lives. Hopefully, for many that decision is to enroll in a college and attain a higher education. However, as tuition costs rise, students have to take a second look at their options for a better future. For those that could not undergo the college experience otherwise, doors leading to opportunity are opened. However, I do not share Addison’s view that attending community college is the best method for anyone. Whether college or community college is chosen, comparisons cannot be properly made. It is difficult to determine which of the two choices is better because every person and their situation is different, requiring different methods. I gravitate towards the position of avoiding community colleges if possible, but as stated before, college is not always possible. Private colleges tend to have higher academic standards, for everyone earned the right to be admitted. This community of common ground and similar academic ability creates an atmosphere that is comfortable, yet motivated. I agree with Addison and Hacker and Dreifus in the sense that education needs improving, but I do not agree with their entire view. It is impossible to create a perfect form of education because not every student is the same. A different education than the current is not always the answer because someone will always be placed at a disadvantage. In conclusion, I strongly encourage the option of attending private college; however, community colleges can serve as a wonderful, life-saving alternative for those who desire the college experience, but are unable to attend
Education is fundamental in today’s society. It has become a sought after medium for attaining success. Many careers have set specific educational requirements for a person to even be considered for employment. The education that one receives can be achieved through different types of institutes. Many parents face the conundrum of sending their children to the right institution that will aid in their child’s future success. The choices seem to be in abundance but many people find themselves limited to a short list of obtainable institutions. The parents have a great deal of things that need to be thought through. This may require factors that have to be considered. Some of the factors include the following: curriculum, class sizes, cost and school’s quality but these are some questions that stand out. Does the type of school really help performance? Are there factors that hinder one type of institution from thriving? These decisions are crucial and, for the most part, will determine the type of institution the child will receive his or hers knowledge from.

High school and college dropout rates are at an all time high. Secondary school students are told throughout high school that if they don’t go to college then they will never be successful. Going to college doesn’t always make a difference because many career choices such as teachers and lawyers are highly contested and result in either no job or low salary. Low pay deters teacher’s motivation and they tend to work part time jobs to supplement their income. Public schools standards are comparable to a kangaroo court’s procedure; private schools are known for better teachers, environment, and test grades. The major problems in the public school system include the lack of funding, lack of resources, and lack of standards.
Constant debate exists over whether or not homeschooling works and, if it does work, how it compares to public school. More parents should consider homeschooling their children rather than sending them to public school because of family values, religious views, refined social skills, and higher educational opportunities.
With the rapid growth of college tuition, it has become an important issue in higher education. College Tuition is simply defined as the charge or fee for instruction, at a private school or a college or a university. Most people agree today that college tuition is too high or that it needs to be completely dismissed. The Public Choice For some parents, deciding on a school for their children can be a difficult decision. Others attended a private school themselves and found that it was a beneficial experience and therefore want the same for their kids. But which is better: private schools or public schools? Private schools should be abolished because education should allow for equal opportunities for all students. Education is supposed to provide better chances of success for the student. There are many decisions for parents to choose private or public school for their kids. Every parent wants what is best for his or her child. A person's education is one of the most important aspects in determining whether or not they will become a productive member of society. Education is so important. We need to look at both public and private schools to find out if there is a difference. Private schools are a better choice than public school for many reasons. Private encourages strong quality teaching, encourages higher education learning, and inhibit the rampant of bullying.
